Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

When I turn on the tv, there is no picture or sound (the ssreen display is just a series of lines). This lasts for about 5 minutes, then the picture and sound is fine. It remains fine for as long as the tv is running. After I turn it off for a while, and turn it back on, the same problem occurs.

Check and make sure your fans are working and there is sufficiant cooling to the back of the set. Sounds like it is overheating and going into protection mode.

My polaroid has sound and picture problems

This is a well-known problem with many Polaroid FP displays. Eventually, the picture will simply go black, rendering the TV useless. The solution is a new control board, ~$400.

TV picture goes out

The tv is shutting down because of a power problem. It could be the power transformer or a color gun overheating. Expect at least a couple of hundred dollars to fix it. Some shops will do house calls for around $65 and can diagnose the problem and give you an estimate. Usually they can just remove the board, take it to the shop and repair it, then reinstall it.

Picture goes dead after 5-10 minutes

You may have a loose solder joint causing this problem. If you can take it apart, you mihgt try spraying circuit cooler in various parts of the circuit but NOT in the high voltage or horizontal circuits.YOU MAY CAUSE AN ARC OR A COMPONENT TO SHORT SINCE THE SET HAS TO BE IN OPERATION WHEN YOU SPRAY. If you hit the bad connection the picture will come back on. When the picture zaps to the middle of the screen, is there just a bright line? If so, then you have a loose connection or a temperature problem in the vertical circuit. Stargazer
