Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

I put a Hitach DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive into my computer. This was to replace a a DVD-ROM drive. Windows XP seems to have found a driver for it without my intervention (unfortunately I have various system messages turned off (by accident)). My replacement drive played part of a video on a DVD successfully. Then I ran Optinfo to get information on the disk in the drive. I ended looking at the video and removed the disk. Since then, the DVD drive insists on pushing the DVD shelf out. Even if I put in a DVD and try to play it, as I did successfully before, I cannot do that now. What should I do?

Restart your computer.
When you see "Press DEL to enter SETUP",
press the 'DEL' key.
Stay in 'SETUP' mode.

Now, insert a disk into the tray, and close the tray.
If it stays closed, then your DVD-drive is working OK.
If it re-opens the tray, you have a hardware problem with the DVD drive. If your drive is less than one year old, it's probably still under "warranty". Exercise the warranty, and get it replaced.

Can't recognise DVD RW

Hi all,

Boy, have I been having a problem. I've tried two different dvd burners, an external TDK DVD+/- RW drive and now an internal NEC dual layer DVD+/-RW drive. I have a Dell Dimension 4500 that came with a Dell branded Windows XP Pro. Have you ever tried getting support from Dell? What a freaking bad joke that is.

Microsoft says there is known problem with XP viewing a DVD+/-RW disc the same way it views a CD+/-RW disc. Problem is a CD RW uses 32 bit packets and a DVD RW uses 16 bit packets. As a result, without the fix, my computer can't recognize there is a DVD RW disk in the drive when trying to burn to it. It recognized DVD +R and DVD-R discs just fine, and I am able to burn to those with no problem.

What I want to do is image my hard drive and burn the image to DVD. That I can't do, because it always comes up with "no disk" or some variation thereof anytime I try to write to an RW disc. Any suggestions? Has anyone else had this problem?

Won't recognize blank dvd

Chek wtat is written on front panel
If it DVD-RW it can record only DVD-R blank, if it + so only +R
or DVD-RAM. If it is DVD +/- RW or RAM it can record any disk.
Also chek the speed for you DVD and disk you using.
If you dvd maximum speed for recording is for example 2.7, 4, 8 you should use only DVD with max speed 2.7, 4, 8 or 1-8, 1-16 etc. So they should be labeled the same as you DVD
Good Luck

ACER 9410CD/DVD-ROM driver not found.

Hi there,
I am assuming you are using XP,

update the drivers via device manager and select the device with the yellow question mark, right click update, reboot and restart

if nothing then remove the device via add/remove programs
select device and remove, reboot and restart

should auto recognise and install the drivers for you,
dont forget to do SP2 updates
Good luck with that,

Let me know how it goes thanks
