Both of the above solutions are wrong in at least one respect. The memory cover is on the bottom of the N600c near the headphone and mic jacks. The screws on mine, at least, are very small Philips-head screws, not Torx.

On the N600 series laptops, the ram is accessed below the left side palm rest. You can pop the panel off by lifting with your fingernails just below the Fn and Alt keys - I use an Ipod opener tool. U can use a screwdriver - just be careful of the keyboard.

The little screws are Torx head screws and sized by numbers. If you have access to a basic PC tool kit there is probably a couple of torx head screw drivers or torx head screw driver bits. Be sure to remove the battery and disconnect all other power sources. Ground yourself before handling memory modules.

Give me password for compaq evo n600c

You can remove your bios password by reseting your CMOS battery or jamper. You need to open your notebook remove first the battery and all screw at the back of your notebook. You can see there a CMOS battery together with the CMOS jamper. Just read it you can read CLRSCR which means clear cmos, just pull it with in 10 seconds and insert it back. Now you are done to reset bios.

Where is the memory module located on the Compaq Evo model N610c?

turn over computer. remove battery(this is vital) then underneath will be a small panel, with a phillips head screw in middle of computer..remove that screw. make sure you 'ground' your hands, before touching the memory modules, AND only touch ends, not the gold fingers..

Blue Screen of death

According to this link, the memory of Compaq Evo N610c can be upgradable to 1024 mb.

http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/11382_div/11382_div.HTML

Memory Upgrade for Compaq Evo N610C, the Compaq Evo N610C takes the PC2100 DDR SDRAM SODIMMs Memory Type, and comes installed with of Memory. You can upgrade your Compaq Evo N610C to up to a maximum of 1.0 GB Memory, the system has 2 sockets to install Memory, already with standard Memory installed. For best system performance use the maximum amount of allowed Memory per slot for your system. (Souce: http://www.memorystock.com/memory/CompaqEvoN610C.html)

So you have to install 512mb memory module on each slot to make up 1024mb of memory.

Did you install 512mb memory module on each slot or did you just install 1GB memory module in one slot?

Try to go back to 256mb RAM and see if you will have the same blue screen error. If you did not receive any blue screen, try to add memory into it or just insert 512mb first and then oserve again if you will have the blue screen error.

No it won't hurt it.
But the maximum capacity for your laptop is 1GB. And you only have 2 slots, so you could use 2 512MB modules.
