Question about Haier HPC07XC6 Portable Air Conditioner

Water leaking from base of unit during operation

The unit has been running for a couple of hours and is dripping water out of the base. I opened the drain plug, but there was no water in it. But when I tipped the unit, water poured out of the bottom side grate.

How old is the unit? Has it been banged around lately?

  • phantomfsh May 26, 2010

It is 3 years old and is stored for the winter in the same location it is used in the summer. No bangs or drops. Where does the dehumidifier drain line go? Could it be working as a dehumidifier eventhough I only have it on AC?

Dehumidification is something that AC units do as a by-product of cooling so yes, it is acting as a dehumidifier. there is a coil (copper tubing snaking back and forth through metal fins like on a radiator) that water condenses on and drips off of. That water will fall in to a pan and then will either evaporate or run through a drain. Make sure the path from the coil to the drain pan is clear. The water will either drip down (pan sloped to a corner or hole) or run through a tube to the drain pan. The drain pan is the part that had the drain plug in it. If that pan was dry the condensate is reaching the pan. If it is full that means either the drain is plugged up or the unit is pulling humidity out of the air faster than it can evaporate. Check to make sure any drain tube is clear and that the path for the condensate (water) is sloped the right way - not shaken loose or tipped to the wrong side.
That should get you started. Let me know if I can be of any other help.

Good Luck!

have your HVAC technician check the pressures in your unit...sounds like you may have low pressure. You should NOT be having any ice build up to melt off.

My unit was leaking water in the house, so we tilted it back a little. Now it's not blowing cold air.

If you only tilted it 1/4" to 1/2", shouldn't have affected it's operation. Check the air intake filer to make sure it's clean. And while the front is removed to check the filter, look to see if any significant water remains in the drip pan. If there is, the drain hole of the drip pan may be clogged and needs to be cleared.

Hope this helps you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

I have a travel trailer with a coleman 7300 roof top ac unit. the unit will blow cold air but water leaks thru the plenum. i was told by the previous owner that it needs a new seal. i would like to fix it...

If it's leaking inside where filter cover is, then real good chance the drains being plugged is the only problem. If water (condensation) not running off roof when operating in cool mode, then I'd bet drains, which are located under unit on roof, and you should see them sticking down like buttons. They have a hole in side that needs cleaning with a pipe cleaner or similar to open them up. If need be, shut off power to unit and remove top cover on roof unit and look for the drain holes in base, and clean them out. If water comes in while raining, but AC not running, then it's gasket. That is remedied by removing ceiling assembly (just screws) and 4 bolts that pull/hold the upper and lower assemblies together, unplug wiring to upper unit, and simply lift it off, change gasket and re-install. Tighten those 4 bolts equally when gasket is aligned properly over hole, only until gasket is approx 1/2, original thickness. Plug harness back in and your done. (about an hours work.) Only other thing that may be wrong is styrofoam drip tray for cooling unit, under cover on roof may have a crack , allowing condensation to leak in. If that 's the case, you can try to find a sealant compatible with styrofoam to seal those cracks.

Water drops from inside the fridge and not thru the drainage at the back.- thank you.

Hello and Welcome to FixYa!
Actually the leaking water is from the evaporator coil unit.... Under normal conditions,Self-defrost refrigerators usually dispose the water generated during the defrost cycle through a tube or channel that directs the water a pan (Known as Drip pan), commonly below the refrigerator unit.... The channel or tube is clogged and the water is leaking to the refrigerator unit, so you need to clear that contamination....Once the blockage is removed, the generated water will move through that channel/tube directly to the drip pan and there will no water on the top shelf in the refrigerator compartment. Another cause may be the refrigerator may have doorframe heaters to evaporate any condensation on the cabinet frame. If your refrigerator is equipped with a switch inside that says "energy saver" or something like that, while running in that mode the door heaters are disabled. Turn the switch to the opposite setting and wait 24 hours. If the water disappears the problem is solved.

I had the same problem, removed rear cover (15 screws) and found a drain slot under the conderser plugged with dust and grime. gently cleaned the slotted area out with a Q-tip, and the condensate is now following the proper flow into the tan and evaporator. It has been running for 2 hours with no drips!!
