Apologies - I don't have a solution but I do have exactly the same issue and wondered if you'd found the cause since it's been three months since you posted?
TIA.

We live in NZ and no one here deals with Hotpoint! I can't find a repair person who will look at our WMA76. We have power, the machine fills up and then the timer seems to add time on. The machine then...

The timer will add on time if the water is cold or the heating element is taking too much time to heat the water. Check both inlet water screens in the back of the unit (clean as necessary) and.... do a continuity test on the heating element with the power secured / OFF. If the heating element is open you will most likely experience the symptom you currently have. Stokes AU can get your parts: http://www.stokesap.com.au

FYI if you can find a GE Appliance dealer they also work on Hotpoint. (Other than the name they are pretty much the same unit)
It appears the only GE dealer is in AU here:
Andi-co Australia ' www.andico.com.au They would also be a source for parts.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,

Hotpoint WMA76 - been on a normal wash cycle but wont spin to drain water - cycle finished, drum full of water and cant empty. How do we empty it to open machine?

Remove drain outlet hose from point where it discharges into waste pipe, and lay the hose down into a bucket or bowl, this should let the water syphon out, enabling you to open the door.

Wont work, flashes LR

rapoyner The "LR" error code means "locked rotor". It appears on the display after the machine has repeatedly tried to turn the motor. The cause of the problem could be the motor itself, the motor control board, the main control board or the wiring. If your washer is less then five years old most likely the parts are still under Maytag warranty. It has very sophisticated design and I wood recommend to call the Maytag authorized repair man even if the warranty is already expired. Gendos
