Question about Gateway Solo 9550 Notebook

1 Answer

I have a solo 9550 with XP and everything crashed, the only thing it would do is keep restarting and never would load up windows. I tried all of the F keys to try to find the gateway recovery center but it isn't on here. I eventually tried hitting the ALT key and repeatedly hit f10 and I got windows to come up, however there is an unbelievable amount of programs and I believe drivers that are missing. Nothing is working right, my antivirus is gone and I tried to download a different one but it will not let me. I tried to delete the old one but it will not let me delete anything. I tried system restore with no success. It takes several minutes to open anything ex.. control panel and start menue. Please help me do a system recovery to factory settings.

It'll not help you, due to symptoms of ailing hard drive.
Go to your BIOS and see if there any Hard Drive status check (like S.M.A.R.T.)
If not, get somewhere (DOS based) HDD test that will run from CD/USB without Windows running.

VIA KT400 Chipset Driver update fried my ATI Radeon 9550 AGP Card

AGP is a bit old for win7, i'd drop it. that said, if the ati card is an addin perhaps your onboard (via) chip is causing the problem. turn it off in your bios so that the install never even detects it and use drivers from ati.

Toshiba laptop L25-D119 crashed after several system restores...

You can use any windows XP cd and boot from that to run a repair. You don't need the Restore Cds unless the problem can't be fixed by the XP cd. You could also try booting into safe mode if you can't find a cd. Let me know if you need more help.

Radeon ATI 9600XT video card

Try this, I just tested (2 days ago) an Albatron that arrived here with a 9800pro, crashing everytime they tried to play games.
I installed the latest drivers etc that "should" have resolved the issues...It made it worse. Updated everything including the chipset etc.

After driving myself crazy for several hours I installed the Catalyst 7.3 drivers... Away it went fine, tried the 7.4 (same problems as before), back to 7.3 and fine again.

So with Albatron boards and ATI cards, try the Catalyst 7.3 driver located <HERE>
