Question about Maytag Dryers

1 Answer

I have a Maytag Gas Dryer model LDG4916AAE. The main burner does not kick on. The ignitor (glow bar) heats up and then I hear a click and the glow bar shuts off. This happens over and over, about 1 minute intervals. I have plenty of airflow through the exhaust vents, but it is cold air of course. I replaced the ingitor and it still does the saem thing

Ensure that the valve coils are OK. Remove the coils and read Ohms at terminals. If the coils are open, then replace the faulty coil.
Coils are parts 7 and 8 in diagram below. Click on picture to enlarge.

I put an ometer on the two coils,

the coil with only 2 leads (Gas Valve Secondary Coil) showed 0.584 ohms

the coil with three leads Boosting and Holding Coil had the following measurments

Black lead to Red lead = 0.682 ohms

Black Lead to white lead = infinity

Red Lead to white lead = infinity

I cleaned the leads off and reseated the connectors several times, dryer is still doing the same thing.

Let me know what to try next

This is a two coil system. The coil with three terminals is called secondary coil. This is tested reading continuity at the outer contacts. A good coil will read between 500 and 1500 Ohms.

The secondary coil must be tested in full using a test lamp. This coil is wired in parallel with the flame sensor, that can also be causing your problem. The flame sensor opens when temperature is reached in thirty seconds, allowing the secondary coil to get full voltage and to keep the vlve open.
For safety reasons the flame sensor cannot be opened to test the coil. Here as well, the test is done using a 115V test lamp or a voltmeter to read volts while machine is operating. This are easier to handle than a multimeter.

The best way to proceed keeping the safety standard is by replacing the secondary coil and then going for the flame sensor. In some case the valve itself may be defective.
Parts for this dryer are not expensive. Refer to my previous comment for list.

MAytag 2300 aww does not heat

If this is a gas dryer it may be the ignitor has failed. There should be a panel you can remove to inspect the burner compartment. Turn on the dryer and look for an orange glow if you don't see any glow the ignitor is probably faulty and should be replaced. If it is an electric dryer it may be a bad heating element. Hope this helps.

Dryer does not heat.....gas is on, can hear igniter clicking. Burner is not getting any gas. Perhapes problem with gas valve igniter??

If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heating the most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glows sometimes it is still not working properly.

if you dryer is gas check out this gas no heat tip....

If you have an electric dryer, you can have many different things that can go wrong causing the dryer not to heat.

check out this electric no heat tip...

Whirlpool gas dryer Model #WGD5530SQ0 not heating properly

If your dryer heats when you first turn it on and after a few minutes it does'nt. check the ignitor to see if it is glowing. It should glow bright then you will hear a click and the burner will light. If the ignitor glows bright but you hear a click but no flame and if you watch this for several minutes and this process continues of glow then glow goes out no flame, then you have a bad burner coil. There are 2 black solenoids sitting on top of gas valve. One of them is shorting out after it warms up. Replace both solenoids. You can usually get them as a kit from parts store.

The ignitor does not glow red. The ignitor has been replaced once with no glow, so gas does not turn on and ther is no heat

You might have a thermal fuse that has blown or a problem with the burner sensor or one of the burner coils is bad. If your not real familiar with taking apart your dryer you should call for service.

I have a a Whirlpool LGB6000KQ1 Gas Dryer. Sometimes the heat comes on, sometimes it does not. Could it be the thermostat or something else?

it appears as if your unit has a small plastic plug/access hole cover below the left corner of the dryer door. if you remove that you should be able to look within the dryers burner area and observe what might be happening..
if when you turn the dryer to a normal timed cycle, on high heat and start the unit, shortly after the dryer begins running you should be able to observe the glow ignitor glowing through that access hole, and shortly after that hear a click and flames appear, if is not glowing then there are probably thermal fuses blown out on the backside of your unit, or the ignitor is bad.
if however it does glow, and maybe even fire up once then all the safetys mentioned b4 are good.. now sit there and watch your ignitor/burner assembly.. the flame will cycle on and off depending on the dryers internal temperatures, but the main thing to look for is whether the ignitor glows, then fails to click then produce flames, if that be the case the gas valve coils are bad and need to be replaced part # is 279834 - M STYLE COIL KIT
hope this helps,
best of luck,

Gas dryer doesn't heat up

,when you start your gas dryer you should here two clicks, if so then your ignitor should begin to glow if two clicks and no glow [its your ignitor] but you can use a volt meter and make sure 110 volts at ignitor if voltage replace ignitor with new.if not two clicks then its going to be your thermal fuse its in the same area as the burner Therese two kinds[only one in each dryer tho],both white having two wires and small, one looks like a missile the other a fling saucer.ither kind you can put the two wires going to it to gether ,isolate them with tape and try heating.if heats if fuse you need to check for any blockage, inyou house or dryer.over heating can cause the fuse to open if i can be of more help you can email thru fixya God bless ,tom

Maytag gas dryer wont stay hot

Check the exhaust to see if it is clogged. If not, you may need a pair of gas valve coils (not very hard.)
Replace the coils if you see the ignitor glow and shut off, without the gas valve opening up.

Maytag Gas Dryer LDG7304AAE won't heat

Probably a high limit fuse. Check on the burner shroud for a 2 wire thermos. They should have little resistance. If so replace. If they are open, check for a restricted vent. Remove front panel and clean out area below filter.

After a few heating cycles the burner does not ignite

The problem you are describing is usually associated with a bad gas valve coil. The dryer runs normally until it gets hot, then starts making a strange clicking noise. After it cools down, the dryer runs normally again. The gas valve coils (there are two of them) usually run about $20 a piece. I recommend replacing both of them at the same time just to be sure. I hope this helps.
