There are hundreds of makes and models and styles of strimmer head. PLEASE state the MAKE and MODEL when asking questions. It makes them easier to answer instead of trying to guess what type of machine you have. Thanks

Agnes take of the cutting head again and see if it runs at full speed without it. If it does you have either put the head on too tight or it's the wrong head.

It has been a long time since you have posted this question...have you been able to solve the problem? i came accross your post as I have/had the same problem today, but managed to solve it quite cheap.

Chec for a stuck open wastegate.

Small trimmers are fine on a 25-1 fuel oil mix with a good two stroke oil.

Some of the weedeater heads are known to be ineffective and quite troublesome. Try Home Depot maybe for a universal type head that will hold and feed line the way you want. They have strimmer parts.
