Ativa Wired Optical Mouse 611405 is not working with Vista

My old mouse which I had forever was also an Ativa and it finally died, so I purchased an Ativa Wired Optical Mouse model number 611405. I plug it into the the usb port on my laptop and get the message saying that Windows needs to install driver software for unknown device. I then click the locate and install driver software. So I then get that message that it is installing and then get the message saying that it has been installed and ready to use. Ok thats great, it lights up like its suppose to but, it does nothing but light up. The mouse is not working at all. The scroll wheel, the buttons nada, but it does light up pretty. Anyone have any ideas as to why this is not working. My old Ativa worked fine, and unlike this one, it didnt ask me everytime I plugged it in to locate the software.

Sorry to say it's most likely a failed switch on the mouse. You will have to replace it. Try a hard-wired mouse first if you can to confirm.
