Question about Digital Cameras

My cybershot 7.2 mega pixel camera will not open - power is on but i get an error saying acess then told to power off. is it bust?

    The camera isn't accesable. on the Window the word access is indicated.

    After a while this indication is follwed by athe indication "formar error"

    I get the same thing. "Access", then some beeps, then "Please turn camera off then on" which just continues the cycle.

None of the above are correct.
Some people have this issue when there is dust in the mechanism and suggest shaking / gentle banging the camera. That's not my 100% suggestion.
Somebody commented on the battery being an issue if only a little bit is charged. It not having the juice to open the lens correctly.
All in all, it's lens mechanism related. Why it says 'Access' is anyone's guess.
Our Sony W30 has just developed the same problem. It was dropped. :-] (not happy about that). But it could have been already on the way out because it got dropped on sand. :-(

Cybershot message "turn it on and off again"


Make sure your shutter is open mine was stuck closed and I had to push it open and then I stopped getting the message, But now it doesn't close, it doesn't seen to affect the camera pictures.

Touch the on-screen button(shows as a finger) to bring up the MENU, touch Image Size(two little squares) , select 1M (1280x960)

Lens of camera is not being open properly, so it gives "access" message. Try this trick, while puching power up button, tapp the lens or pull upward. Please don't give much force as it can be damaged easily.
