Fujitsu Siemens GA-8ISXT-FS, can I add a 2nd ethernet card / NIC

Hi,

I currently am using a - Fujitsu Siemens GA-8ISXT-FS computer.

I currently have installed on there Windows 2003 Server, and I need to make a VPN server work on this machine and therefore need a 2nd ethernet NIC. I have opened the machine and can't find an available slot or where I could slot one in.

Apologies for a silly question, but can you please help with this one.

Thanks in advance

The P/N GA-BISXT-FS is a Gigabyte mother board which has 5 availble PCI slots.
If you don't see any open slots, chances are that all 5 of the slots are already in use.
Take a look and maybe you can pull out of the cards you don't need and install the 2nd NIC card.
Good Luck and let us know how it works.

You could add a new NIC to the computer which is cheaper ($10), as long as you have the ability to add. You could also get a USB ethernet adapter. Have you tried to update the drivers and firmware of the NIC?

I have a Fujitsu Siemens Computer Bought from PC World. A couple of years old now. It has become very sluggish on start up and I suspect I need a memory upgrade. I don't know what memory type to buy. ...

-your computer piles up data overtime that would cause your computer to slow down.
-you install/uninstall programs once in a while and that adds to the problem.
-you can use any cleanup tool like CCLEANER. You can download it from this link, http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/standard.

Can any one please show me a picture of my motherboard?

The Fujitsu Siemens Scaleo 600 desktop computer, uses a Gigabyte GA-8IXST-FS motherboard, (GA-8 -'eye'-XST-FS)

http://uk.ts.fujitsu.com/rl/servicesupport/techsupport/consumer/MediaCenter/Scaleo%20600/Scaleo%20600.htm

In the link above scroll down with your eyes to where it states -
Motherboard:

To the right you will see -
Gigabyte GA-8IXST i865PE ATX Sound AC97 LAN Reader,
in blue.

I would like you to Left-click right on that listing.

Give it a few seconds, and you will see the first page of a PDF motherboard manual, for your Scaleo 600 motherboard.

Let the file download all the way before looking through it. (Watch the download progress bar)

At the top of the PDF file in the header, you will see the page number box. It is to the right of the blue Down Arrow.
Page 6 shows you an illustration of the Scaleo 600 motherboard.

[Should you wish to save this PDF document to your computer.
This way you won't have to download it again, and can copy it to a CD disk for easy access any time you wish. Also allows you to delete it from your computer, and save Harddrive space.

In the top header again, look for the Floppy Disk icon.
It is the second icon from the Left.

If you hover your mouse cursor over this icon, it will briefly reveal,
"Click to save this file to your computer or another location"

Left-click on the Floppy Disk icon.

A small window will come up,
Save a copy...
At the bottom of the window is a box with - File name:
to the left of it.

In the box will be listed - Man_8isxt-fs_uk

Unless you feel like looking for Man_8isxt-fs_uk, I would suggest you do this;

Put your mouse cursor in the box right after the k in uk.
Left-click twice.

Type Fujitsu Scaleo 600 Mobo.
(Mobo stands for MOtherBOard)

Now you would go down to the bottom Right, and left-click on Save.
HOWEVER, before you do!

You need to know where this file will be saved. You can make this file go to where you wish.

At the top of the Save a copy window, is another box.
Save in:

In the box is the destination of where the file will go.

Suggestion.
If it does not state - My Documents, I would like you to do this;
Left-click on the blue down arrow to the right of the Save in: box.
Then Left-click on My Documents.

Now go below to the right, and left-click on Save]

I don't know what you are looking for, but some specifications if I may.

1) The motherboard form factor is ATX.
9.6 inches by 12 inches, or 244mm by 305mm.
(9.6 inches is approximately 9 and 9/16ths inches)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motherboard_form_factor
2) The motherboard has a Socket 478 processor socket.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_478

3) The motherboard chipset is an Intel 865PE.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_chipsets#Pentium_4_Chipsets

(Codename for this chipset is Springdale.

To regress;
Chip and Chipset are slang terms for I.C.
Integrated Circuit,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integrated_circuit

The motherboard chipset technology used for the Gigabyte GA-IXST-FS motherboard, uses a Northbridge chip, and a Southbridge chip.

This motherboard diagram, shows the relation of how the chips are connected,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Motherboard_diagram.svg

(CPU stands for Central Processing Unit. Another term used is Microprocessor, or Processor for short.
CPU does NOT stand for personal computer)

The Northbridge chip handles the faster processes of a computer.
The Processor, Ram Memory, and high speed graphics.

High speed graphics being AGP, or PCI Express.
A graphics card inserted into a PCI slot, is NOT high speed graphics.

(The Northbridge chip for the Scaleo 600 motherboard, is an Intel
82856PE)

The Northbridge chip is connected to the Southbridge chip via the Front Side Bus. (FSB)
Think of the FSB as an 'Information highway'.

Data (Information) goes back, and forth on the FSB.

The Southbridge chip handles the slower processes of a computer.
Slower processes such as anything to do with PCI technology.

A graphics card inserted into a PCI slot, or Integrated Graphics, or any adapter card inserted into a PCI slot.

Also as you can see by the motherboard diagram,
A) IDE drives: ( Harddrive/s or optical drive/s)

B) SATA: Whether it is a SATA harddrive, or SATA optical drive, or an external SATA port.

C) USB: The USB ports

D) Ethernet: Ethernet port

E) Audio Codec: The Audio capabilities of the motherboard. Specifically integrated audio, unless there is a Sound Card installed.
(Not going to go into detail about Codec at this time, to avoid confusion)

Just some of the slower processes of the computer.
The Scaleo 600 motherboard uses an Intel ICH5 Southbridge chip.

The graphics expansion slot is an AGP 4X/8X
Can use AGP graphics cards that are AGP 4X, (No, this is antique graphics technology), or graphic cards that are AGP 8X.

The maximum TOTAL amount of ram memory is 2GB.
You can use either PC2700, or PC3200.

[PC2700 is DDR Sdram that operates at 333MegaHertz.
PC3200 is DDR Sdram that operates at 400MHz]

Should you have any questions regarding your mobo, please state in a Comment. I'll try my best to answer them.

Regards,
joecoolvette

XP SP2 Fujitsu Siemens Ref FSP : RCDWXPHFRN010 / 10600573874 CRC : 758D6AB8 Key accès !!! Regards

Hi.

The key is a Microsoft Windows key.

The key cannot be provided here, as this will be a law infringement.

Microsoft keys are not bound to the installation CD, but to the licence stickers placed on top of the computer cabinet, or on the laptop.

Check if you have a licence sticker on your computer.

Usually generic windows keys for same version also work on customized install disk like this. If the system is for example XP Home Service Pack 2, and you have purchased a generic version of the same system, then you can use the key on your FS CD setup.
Generally there is no way to retrieve legally a lost Windows key. You can try calling Fujitsu Siemens, but I am afraid they will tell you the same.

From here you can get Fujitsu Siemens contact in your area: Product support, software evaluation, drivers, patches and other

Can i upgrade my ram to ddr3 if so what would you recomend .cheers

Thank you for the clarification sir.
NO, the Fujitsu Scalio 600 Media Center uses the Gigabyte GA-8ISXT-FS motherboard, and it only supports DDR Sdram.

This is a PDF Motherboard Manual for the GA-8ISXT-FS mobo, from Fujitsu Support,

http://uk.ts.fujitsu.com/rl/servicesupport/techsupport/Boards/Motherboards/GigaByte/ga-8isxt/Man_8isxt-fs_uk.pdf

This is the support page for the Fujitsu Scalio 600 Media Center,
from Fujitsu Support,

http://uk.ts.fujitsu.com/rl/servicesupport/techsupport/consumer/MediaCenter/Scaleo%20600/Scaleo%20600.htm

Uses either DDR Sdram at 333MegaHertz, or 400MHz.
(PC2700 and PC3200 respectively)

DDR Sdram has 184 gold plated contact pins on the bottom.
DDR2 Sdram has 240 gold plated contact pins on the bottom.
DDR3 Sdram has the same amount of contact pins as DDR2.

The voltage and signal contact pins are in a different place, from DDR2 to DDR3.
This is why the locating notch on the bottom of the ram stick, is in a different place, comparing DDR2 to DDR3.

So you can see, DDR3 not fit in a DDR2 slot, because the locating lug in the bottom of the ram slot, and the locating notch in the bottom of the ram stick. Keeps people from trying to put DDR3 in a DDR2 slot, and vice-versa.

You can also see why a 240 pin ram stick, will not fit in a 184 pin ram slot.

Bumping up from DDR to DDR2 does make a difference in my book. (Requires using a motherboard that supports DDR2 however, so you would need a different motherboard)

Going from DDR2 to DDR3? Not so much IMHO. The frequency rate is higher, but there is a trade off with slower ram timings.

Sorry if I have been too 'Windy', but I thought I would give you more information, than just,
'No, won't work', or No won't work because your motherboard uses DDR Sdram'.

No, DDR400 is just DDR RAM. DDR2 is newer RAM and is not compatable with older systems that take DDR RAM. Sorry.
