Public wireless conection unable to connect

Hello It`s probably your wireless router that`s not working, or you could be too far away from the antenna.
Is the power supply working, for the router, are the cable set right, is the router on, are your internet connection working.

You can take the router, to a computer repair shop and let them test it.
The router must be connected like this:

But the wireless setup code for it, is different from one router to another.
If the wireless is working elsewhere, the pc is not the issue.

Good luck

I have an HP Pavilion dv4. The wireless connection disables when the computer is bumped or moved. Also, the computer will freeze up and shut down when it is bumped. I read a forum that said to go into...

Sounds that the wireless adapter daughter board is either loose or failing. First, we need to make sure it is making good contact with the laptop's motherboard. In order to do this, we have to do the following:
1. Turn off the laptop & remove the battery.
2. Look at the compartments in the bottom of the laptop. You should be able to see 2 or 3 areas with small rectangular plates covering them. These plates usually have one or 2 screws holding them in place.
3. Check which one of those plates is the one which covers the wireless adapter daughter board. When you find it unscrew its screws & remove it.
4. Below the plate, there will be a small daughter board screwed to the laptop's motherboard, with 2 thin wires attached to it (usually one black wire & the other is a white wire). Gently, remove both wires using a small flat screw driver to pull them out gently. Don't forget to note down which wire connects to which connection point.
5. Unscrew the wireless adapter daughter board & remove it from its slot.
6. Clean both the slot & the daughter board's terminal connectors using a dry electric contact cleaner. You can purchase it at an electronics store.
7. Leave the slot & the daughter board for a while to dry.
8. Re-place the daughter board back in the slot & screw it to the motherboard.
9. Reconnect the 2 wires.
10. Screw back the covering plate.
11. Put back the battery & turn on the laptop. Check if the problem was fixed.

If this did not fix the problem, you will need to repeat the steps to remove the wireless adapter daughter board & replace it with a new one.

How do i switch the wireless on an hp pavilion dv7 series laptop

look for a switch or a button that has the wifi icon on it.
You may have to press a Fn key with the icon key on the keyboard
in some laptops.

Does this PC have a wireless card? If so - where is it? If not - my Linksys card doesn't fit. Can I use a usb type card?

If this has a wireless card it would likely be inside on a removable board. It should have something like an antenna in the rear that is connected to said board.

If there is no card, you can use a USB connected wireless network adapter or you can install a card inside.

The wireless is not working!

Here is how to diagnose your wireless on the laptop:

If you do have a faulty wireless circuit, you can purchase a wireless adapter for your unit which would be less expensive that a system board. (unless it is still in warranty to HP)

Cannot connect wireless printer to computer

Yes call HP they can look up by serialnumber to see if machine is in warranty period. Sounds like a board problem with wireless board. Does it work direct with a wire to computer ? Does your wireless in the computer work? Check control panel - system - device manager and see if there are any yellow marked items. If there is then the problem is in the computer...

DV4000 cant connect to wireless network

HP bought several motherboards from the same company in China. These boards work for about 15 months then they can't find the wireless card. This is caused by a defect in the North Bridge chip overheating over time. This chip is not replaceable at the local level. You can send it back to HP for a replacement and sometimes they will charge you $300 - $500, or you can just replace the motherboard yourself. Check with them first since there is an ungoing lawsuit regarding these boards. Either way the only fix is to replace the motherboard. This is also a problem for the dv6000 and the dv9000 models. HP knows that 30% of these will fail.

Mike
