Smart hard disc problome

It means pretty well what it says. That the hard disk is failing, and you need to back up all of your data from it and get the drive replaced.

You'll need to refer to your manufacturer or manual to check what type of hard disk it needs.

I cannot stress that this is incredibly serious however, backup your data immediately
SMART is a tool that checks for hardware errors. it will detect when there is a Higher power consumption or temperature than usual. Those things predict a hard drive crash, however it could take months for the drive to fail (or it could be the next minute). since it's a hardware problem the drive is going to die on you and you will have to replace it. The hardware that you are trying to access is damaged or failing.

The device drivers for the hardware are faulty or incompatible. There is a connection problem such as a bad cable for internal hard drives
Test all power and data leads that attach to your hard drive IDE,SATA
the leads from your MOTHERBOARD TO THE HARD DRIVE make sure they have a secure dust free connections and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty if its a flat 40pin ide this will be the first to fail Since smart is sometimes triggered by the read heads of the drive that stick to the surface of the drive during boot up (witch results in Higher temp and power rates) you could:

open the laptop
get the drive out

'gently' tap the center a few times
reinsert and check for the smart message again sometimes there is a little dirt on the heads that cause the sticking problem

but, realistically, you're drive is failing and you should back up your data and start shopping for a replacement drive. b> You could run the chkdsk disk utility click start run type cmd then type chkdsk/r/f which will scan for and attempt to repair any bad sectors and automatically fix any corrupt files on your hard drive or an easier way to run the chkdsk utility click start control panel administrative tools computer management ,disk management right click on your drive select properties click tools you should see click check now click start two boxes automatically fix files and scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors place then a tick in both boxes then select check now ,start should schedule this task when restart have no input while the chkdsk utility is in progress any input may further damage your computers operating system and hard drive

My sony vaio pcg-551l won't go past "no operating system"

If this is the first time your trying to start up this computer try to restart it. Sometimes brand new laptops can fail to find the operating system on first startup. If this isn't the case it sounds like your Hard Drive is either disconnected or has had a critical failure.

What do I do if my laptop is freezing up?

how old is it? check the power supply isn't faulty of the laptop. Poor or bad connections can cause this.

Also, check the hard drive isn't duff, best trick (sounds silly but works).

Locate the hard disk on the laptop (on the underside) power it up and listen to the spinning effect by getting a philips screwdriver locating on the screw of the hard drive cover, power up and listen using the handle end for the spinning. If it sounds as if it's slowing up and down or "rough" in anyway then the hard drive is worn.

A worn hard drive will inevitably cause intermittent data retrieval by throwing gargled information into the system buffers within the hard drive memory.

If hard drive is ok, check you haven't downloaded a virus. It's best to wipe of all information and start again. Please make sure you back-up your important information whilst it still works with a usb stick or dvd back-up etc Good luck!

ps: make sure the memory hasn't been updated with the wrong type of density too. or unclip the memory and relocate it again

When I start up my lap top, it will bring me to the Acer screen before you select profiles, but gives me a failure alert, and leaves me at the Acer screen.

if you can access bios then restore default settings save and exit, sometimes hitting the right button at just the right time on startup is difficult, could take a dozen tries ,sometimes holding down the button,or tapping it rapidly on start will get you there,if none of that works, remove hard drive ,and ram sticks ,and reinstall ,sometimes they get knocked loose,if still nothing ,pull the bios battery on motherboard for a couple hours to reset,if its still under warranty send it in for repair, opening it will void warranty, you could also try booting to the operating system disk, and select repair option.hope this helps, aloha from maui todd0708

Gateway MX6927 Windows Xp won't boot

put your xp disk in the optical drive.Turn off computer. Turn computer back on as soon as you turn it on start tapping f 12 constantly.it should go the boot menu giving you a choice of booting from cd or hard drive choose boot from cd.Be sure you choose repair rather than new installation or you could loose all your information stored on the hard drive,I personally would try safe mode first you can get to safe mode by tapping f 6 when you first turn on your computer.

Blue screen unmountable boot volume

Hey,

There seems to be a problem with the hard drive. I would suggest to attempt reinstalling windows or using the recovery discs that might have came with the computer and try to reinstall or restore the computer to the original state.

if the hard drive is not detected in windows setup, you most likely have a faulty drive.

In that case the hard drive might need to be replaced.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks,
Ekse

How to get into safemode with ibm t26 thinkpad

To get into safemode on a windows operating system then you must press F8 at startup. Keep tapping the F8 key and you should get a menu that says Start windows in safe mode and some other options. Choose safe mode and your there.

Sometimes a computer may have a boot menu set to F8 and you will be asked to load from the CD drive or hard driver. If thats the case then select the hard drive and then tap F8 again until the menu at the top appears.

Hi,

problems will be with:-
1:- installed memory ( not enough or damaged memory module ) RAM
2:- The Processor ( CPU ) Is Overheating.
3:- Hard-Drive. The unit may have bad or defective sectors.
4:- Computer Virus Or Similar.

Solution:- remove 1 memory module from the computer ( located on the underside computer ) boot the computer. see if this helps. try changing memory between the 2 allocated slots.

Check the CPU Fan, is not clocked with dust/debris. ( Can be accessed by removing 2 screws on the underside or the laptop ) Marked with >> or similar. remove the fan, 3 small screws and brush with a soft dry paint brush or similar, remove any dust from fan and check for blockages.

run a scandisk or hard-drive checking program, to test hard-disk unit et,c.

following these steps, should solve your problems.
