Question about Magic Chef Ovens

2 Answers

My RV oven (Magic Chef range, BT22RS-4TZ) will not operate properly. The pilot works fine. Once the oven is turned on the pilot flame becomes larger , but it is not always large enough to be detected by the thermo couple. The oven will often works fine at sea level, but never at higher altitudes. On the times it will not work, I can always use a lighter to heat the thermocouple to get it to work, but this is getting old. What should I do to fix this problem.

First the gas regulator is adjusted to the sea level condition upon where purchased new at. The change in the pressure of the atmosphere will change the size of the pilot light. Secondly the thermo coupler needs replacement

Under the flame jet of the pilot light there is small pipe tap. You can remove this tap and insite the tap which is oposite the pilot light theire is a srcew adjustment which control the pilot light. However please note that the proplem is most posibly caused from dirt or dust that coved the pilot flame jet. So we advice to desasemble the pilot flame assembly clean it and put it back again. We recoment also to replace the thermocouple which it seems that is fading out also and this can cause the pilot light to increase and decrease since the electricity produced from thermocouple is not stable after some years of working periot so replacing thermocouple will leave you consetrate in more precise udjustment.
Good Luck.

There is no adjustment. I have removed the pipe, it has an orfice only. I don't see any way to adjust the flame. I have cleaned out the pilot tube though.

It seems that for the small model like your their not any adjustment. So the only thing you can do is to replace the thermocouple. Their is one in the thousand that the problem is with the gas valve however this is much more expensive than themocouple.

Hope that will fix it this time, regards.

We have a Magic Chef gas oven (model # CPL1100BDW) without electronic ignition. The oven isn't working. The oven pilot is out, can't get it to light, and the oven will not light - (obviously)....

Hello & Welcome to FixYa
If the pilot is clean and still won't light then the problem is with the safety valve that won't open and so needs replacement. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

Range won't heat up

it is a glow coil , thermocouples are on units with a free standing pilot that you have to light, if you have a range like this you may need a thermocouple if not a free standing pilot you have a electronic gas iginition system that uses a glow coil, you turn on over setting and oven glows orange then iginites if this is what you have you need new glow coil, easy to repalce

Magic Chef range the pilot on the oven will not light.

Is this a manual lighting pilot,do you light it?

If so you may have a bad gas valve.

If this is an auto light pilot it could be the electronic spark is bad.Im guessing the popping noise is the autospark trying to light.

I have a Magic Chef Chateau Gas range. The upper oven does not heat properly. It comes on, but never gets up to operating temps.

you could have a bad ignitor check that it is actually igniting the gas and you can see flame, also check the cavity sensor a probe that sticks into the oven at the top usually on the left top corner but if the bake cycle works with good results them it is ok
check for flame when it starts give it a mibute to ignite, if it does not then you need to replace the broil ignitor.

The pilot light must be lit and stay lit before you will have any propane coming into the oven. This is a safety feature.

Old Magic Chef Gas Oven won't light

sounding like thermostat isn't working. If you could ohm out the t-stat should be closed when you call for heat. If that passes the test then only thing it could be is the gas valve.
