You need to boot into SAFE MODE by pressing F8 during the boot sequence. Just let it go into safe mode and the. Start-Control Panel-Add or Remove Programs. Then look for the Avast entry and highlight it. Click on remove and let it remove it. Now when it is done let it boot normal. If all goes well you can re-install it or another Antivirus like "AVG" VER.9 which we use on all our machines for free. You need to chose the free version. If you have a problem email me at pmgibs1@verizon.net Phil

Hi,
I know this issue is related to Avast AntiVirus, please try Safe Mode, and run an utility to uninstall Avast
Then you can install instead Microsoft Security Essential (MSE), highly recommended.
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?action=printpage;topic=68604.0
Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, aswClear5.exe find it here (http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility) and save it to your HDD (it has uninstall tools for multiple avast versions).
  • 1. Run the avast! Uninstall Utility from safe mode, first for 5.0 and then for 5.1 (if it has a 5.1 option).
  • 2. once complete reboot into normal mode.

My Dell Inspiron 6400 (purchased Nov. 2006) has become psychotic. This virus lets me open one file or program but then if I want to open up another file or anything, I have to restart the computer. So...

Turn off the computer, and make sure its unhooked from the internet.
On another computer, download the free Avast antivirus (avast.com), and put it on a flash drive, or CD.
Next start your computer in SafeMode. (If you don't see an option press F8 when your computer starts to boot, and select SafeMode from the boot options.)
After your computer has booted in SafeMode, put in the CD or flash drive and install the antivirus. After it installs do a full system scan. (If it ask to restart your computer let it, but make sure you boot in safe mode.)
This should get rid of the viruses on the system, and it will prevent future viruses.
Hope that helps,
Forest

Due to virus my lapi is off ,i hve tkn 1mnth be4 at that time i got 2 mnth trial vrsn of mc-cafe antivirus but it not wrking ols rly fast

McAfee is useless especially now that its trial has expired. Uninstall it, reboot, then go here and download and install this antivirus, it's free for home use.

Then during install, make sure the Boot Scan option is selected. When the pc reboots let it run fully.

Hi Have a Dell Pc Windows 7 OS. it will not shut down unless I hold the button. Start-up in good shut down is always a problem

This is a possible malware or virus attack. Your system is encountering data or system corruption preventing it to execute the command during shut down. Best fix is to reinstall Windows 7 in your computer to erradicate all errors and make sure to install an updated security software (antivirus) afterwards.

Ok then i guess you should try repairing the NORTON by running the installation again and choosing the reapir option or the next option is to use another anti virus.

you can visit www.avast.com/eng/programs.html and download avast! 4 home edition free edition.
please restart your pc before installing the avast.
after installing try updating and schedule a boot scan by
  1. cutting and pasting this "W62911071H4800A1106-PJY5XRR5" when prompted for the registration key.
  2. click on the menu icon at the top left of the avast window.
  3. click on "schedule a boot scan" and restart your pc

Good luck !!
