Question about Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

After I tried to use it on a Mac, my Samsung YP-Q1 won't turn on. It says it needs more than 10MB to work. But when I connect it to computer, Emodio shows it has 3GB. What's going one?

Although I don't have time to try the solution yet, it sounds very reasonable and very thorough. It is very clear. I appreciate it.

Hi Kentjeandu,
I understand that you are facing some problem while connecting your samsung mp3 device to your mac system.
Please follow the below steps to resolve the problem:

1. First install the softwares which came with your device to any windows machine and then try connecting your device to that machine. If everything works fine, then it shows that there may be some settings/ driver problem in mac machine.

2. If still your device not working properly in windows machine also as like it did with your mac machine then there might be some problem with your mp3 player itself.
3. In such case, I would like you to go for a device reset. To reset your device, use the pin hole present at the backside of your device and then try again.
4. If your device works properly with windows machine but not in mac machine then there might be some partition corruption in the device. In such case, connect your device to a windows machine, backup the data which you want, then format the device memory, then copy all your data back to device and then try connecting back to the mac system.

I hope this is helpful to you.
Thanks

Thanks for the reply. Sorry, I didn't make my question clear enough. My Samsung YP-Q1 works fine when I connect it to either Mac or PC computer. I can play the songs through the computers and the song list shows up on the computer fine. But when I try to use it by itself without connecting to anything, It just gives me that lack of memory message and won't turn on. I've tried to reset it by poking the reset hole with a pin. Still don't work. If formatting the device memory is the best solution, then how to do it? Also, I read on the web that, for many people, after formatting the memory, its capacity can decrease from 2GB to 119MB, which would be terrible. Is this likely to happen?

    Thank you very much.

  • Hi,
    Thanks for explaining in detail.

    1. While formatting, incidents like 2GB size shrinking to some MB will happen to low cost unbranded players only. If such things happen to your samsung player then you can claim for a new one under warranty.

    2. To format your device, connect your device to PC. goto My computer and right click on the MP3 player drive letter and select format and proceed with Format button to format your player. Please note that formatting will erase all your data in your device. Backup your important data before that.
    3. After formating, check the size of your device in the property window and make sure that your device is showing the full size.
    4. Now disconnect your device from pc, reset your device once and try starting again.

    5. If still you are facing problem, then updating your device firmware will solve the problem.
    6. Goto http://www.samsung.com/my/support/downlo...

and select firmware tab in the website to goto firmware download page.

    7. There you can download the latest version of upgrade file (.zip file) and the upgrade guide (.pdf)
    8. Please read the upgrade guide completely and perform your device firmware update as described in that guide and after this your problem will be rectified.
    All the best

I hope this is useful in solving your problem.
    Thanks

My Samsung YP-S2 Mp3 player can't be recognised by computers when I plug it in through the usb input (it used to work), therefore I'm not able to upload music on it anymore. How can I fix this bug?

Samsung Player Is No Longer Detected By Windows XP, Vista, Emodio Or
Samsung Media Studio.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When your computer doesn't recognize your Samsung MP3 player, programs
such as Samsung Media Studio (SMS), Emodio, Windows Media Player
(10 or 11) do not allow you to transfer files to your player.
In SMS and Emodio, the portable icon appears grayed out.
In Windows Media Player, you are prompted to connect a device.
Your PC may fail to recognize your player for a variety of reasons.
To begin troubleshooting, scroll down, and then click the operating
system your computer is currently running.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
General Operating System Information
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
On Windows computers, Samsung MP3 players require at least Windows XP
Service Pack 2. If you have an older operating system such as Windows
2000 or Windows 98, your computer won't recognize your player until you
upgrade your PC to at least Windows XP Service Pack 2.
If your PC is running Linux or MAC, it will not recognize some MP3
players that support only MTP mode. However, it will recognize players
that support UMS mode and list them as mass storage devices.
The following Samsung MP3 players support UMS: YP-U1, YP-U2, YP-U3,
YP-U4, YP-U5, and YP-S2.
The following Samsung MP3 players support both MTP and UMS mode: YP-Z5
and YP-P3.
Windows Vista may fail to detect you device if the player is not
connected properly, Windows Media Player is not installed or has become
corrupted, Vista is unable to install the MTP drivers, or the MTP patch
is not installed.
You can check it out further by going to this website and entering the information about your player

I can't update my firmware on my yp-q1. it says

Don`t try to use Emodio.  It will just not do it.  Go on the Samsung site, under support type in your model and download the latest firmware.  Also download the upgrade guide (PDF).  It is very simple.  I did it and got my Q1 upgraded to 1.34 US.  ( as they say you will have to restart it twic.

Have fun.

How do you transfer datacasts into your EmoDio?

You can only get datacasts from the EmoDio service - Samsung has provided an online step-by-step guide to using the EmoDio service to get datacasts at the following link (requires that you register your product as part of the process, so have your serial number ready):

I had the exact same problem with my Windows XP when trying to interface with my new Samsung YP-Q1 16GB. Hey, it took a bit of Forum searching but it can be done.

Load your Emodio software from the supplied CD.
Download Windows Media Player 10 or above (important)
Plug in your MP3 Player to USB port (hopefully your USB ports are USB2.0 otherwise you'll need to see if you can upgrade their drivers to make them USB2)
If, as with mine, its still not appearing as a portable device in Windows Media Player or EMODIO
then

Go to Control Panel. (I prefer Classic view where you can immediately see Add Hardware Wizard)
Run Add Hardware Wizard. searches for new Hardware. Prompts for is Hardware connected?)
Look at list of devices Q1 should appear as yellow Q1?
Highlight Q1 and continue.
Prompted for dowload of MTP file.
Install file.

Hey presto....

Worked for me anyway although Emodio software still had problems writing to Q1, Windows Media Player had no such problem.

Doesn't show as a driver

I did it!...

you have to perform all the windows updates, then you have to install "Windows media player 10" (I have installed "Windows media player 11" because on my pc the wmp10 didn't work...).
it seems that YP-Q1 work with some driver hidden in wmp10 or 11...I didn't found them nowhere...

connect the mp3 with the cable usb and test to automatically install the drive... it should work... I did it after a few hours...

sorry for my dumb-english, I must improve it ;)

Emodio no longer displays the portable device (samsung 4g YP-P2)

k this is how im getting "through" it, unistall emodio then downlaod it again...
when it (emodio) asks you if u want to run the update, cancel it, im guessing it was something in the previous update that screwed us all over but if you skip the update your MP3 should register fine.
Ps: dont worry if you re-install emodio ontop of the one you already have it should keep all your songs registered also, but dont quote me on it.
hope i helped !!!
