Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I have a Sansui DVD Recorder/VCR model number VRDVD4005. The DVD has various problems with recording and finalizing. I recently bought a replacement unit from tigerdirect, but it works worse than the original. I know it has an IDE connection but this is basically all I know about this unit. Would you know of a compatible replacement part number or brand?

If its a pioneer unit then they sell the parts online at See if they still stock the part. Click on the link below to go to the parts site.

The information for this model is unavailable is what this web site states about this part.

Did you try calling that number? There will be alternate parts that are compatible with the unit and they may help you find that. The only reason I suggested that site is coz you will get a genuine replacement with a 1 yr warranty.

I have tried to contact someone at that number but I just seem to get nothing but an automated message. I emailed them and no response. I have never had such a hard time replacing such an item before.

You can thank me after we fix this thing :D. I am still looking for an alternative part though. A buddy of mine is a pioneer tech so I am waiting for his reply.

Ok. I called him again and he says DVR-106 / DVR-A06 is compatible with that model, but pioneer no longer makes this part. You can try finding them on stores like e-bay or amazon. He also said that there is firmware update that has been released for the drive that you can get from the pioneer website. Note that you should connect the drive to the computer to install it.

Did you find a replacement for the DVR-1060R/XV? I'm having the same problem.

  • buckturner Dec 03, 2010

The dvd unit in my Sansui VRDVD4005 needs to be replaced too. The repair person said it becomes defective with time and not from use. Is DVR-106 or DVR-A06 still the latest for a replacement? Sansui (Orion) referred me to Sears for a replacement and they quoted $189!!

I would like to make a copy from my video tape to a DVD How do I do it?

Turn on the TV and set it to the video source to be able to easily see the menus as you set up the dubbing process. Put the source tape you want to record in the VCR. (Copy protected tapes will not be dubbed.) If you want to avoid dubbing from the DVD to the VHS tape, remove the erase protection tab from the cassette. Put a compatible recordable disc (non-finalized disc, unprotected disc) in the recorder and make sure there is sufficient available capacity on the disc.

Press Rec Mode/Speed to set the speed (SP, LP, SLP, or XP). Press DVD/VCR and set the unit to VCR mode. Confirm the mode with the indicator light on the unit. Press Dubbing and the mode should switch to DVD automatically. Select Yes (with the left/right arrows) and press Enter to start the duplication. The unit should indicate the VCR playback, dub and DVD recording are in progress. Press Stop to halt the dubbing process or it will stop when the unit reached the end of the tape or the disc is full.

The dubbing button is only on the remote control; if your original remote isn't working make sure that your replacement remote has the feature. often has exact or substitute remotes with the matching features. Search just by the model number not the brand.

BTW: the manual is available here: .

I hope this helps.

I have a Sansui model VRDVD4005. When I put a DVD

I think you need to take it to the service center, because there's nothing that you can do all by your self. The problems starts from the optical lens/ laser pick up, replacing the lens could be necessary.

Have a Sansui VCR/DVD player/recorder. I'm trying to record a VHS to a DVD. Lost the manual. Can you walk me throuh it?

Google the term "Sansui/the model number/manual." A lot of hits will come back, likely a number will have a free downloadable copy of the owners manual.

Unit will not record on blank DVD-Rs. No problems until recently. Cannot set up or finalize DVDs after recording efforts. When I click on VIDEO (vs. VR) Unit will not change over for formatting.

There are a lot of similar complaints about your unit, which gets only 3 out of 5 stars on some review sites
and though it says sansui you should not confuse it with the brand known in the seventies as a quality
line, as it is a sub-brand of Orion, now. The unit employs an ide computer type dvd recorder which can
be replaced if you know what your are doing, to minimize your costs, since similar complaints arise after
only three years of use with this unit, and that method of resolution has been tried and succeeded.

Only dvd plays properly but vhs will not show picture.

Most likely you have the dvd part connected through component or svideo cables. Despite the fact that this is one unit, like other vcr/dvd combo units it acts as two separate units in the same box. The vcr will probably not play through those cables. As you have audio coming through I'd imagine that the audio is connected using red and white composite cable. Connect the video on the vcr side with composite yellow cable or run direct to tv with a coaxial cable.
