Question about Whirlpool Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

I have a WHirlpool Hood/Micro combo MH7140XFB-0. The micro portion has quit working -- lights, exhaust fan and clock still work. Turntable in micro turns but it doesn't heat and makes a funny noise.

Did your cooktop lights fail recently? If so, then the circuit board may have been damaged by a surge. We can probably repair that for you.

Otherwise, I would suspect a shorted high voltage diode or bad magnetron.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

I have a WHirlpool Hood/Micro combo MH7140XFB-0. - mini_manual_behind_grille_small.jpgAt our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

If you don't find your mini-manual, or if you want to look at it before removing the controller, you can download it here.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number (as MH7140XFB0) here.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use for test help, but read their safety warnings first:

(if it's not shorted or burned, it's probably okay)

Does the maytag mmv1164ww1 micro/hood combo require outdoor venting?

No .. it can also be recirculated . you will need charcoal filters if you do so. There is a specific charcoal filter for each microwave hood. Any appliance part dealer would carry it ( you will need to give them the micro hood model number ) or you can order them online through Whirlpool parts website ( whirlpool owns maytag)

The other day my microwave quit cooking and the turntable stopped turning. The fan still turns on and the light still works as if it is cooking but it doesn't. We shut off the power and tried again but it...

It may just be a bad door switch. See this file.

You can enter your full model number at the Sears parts site to find helpful exploded view diagrams.

A full Sears/Kenmore model number has 3 digits, a dot, then 8 more digits, such as ###.########.

Runs very slow

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week or so.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

This can often also affect the exhaust fan, cooling fan, turntable, inside light or overall operation, too.

Details of our service are at our Web site, along with a video showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Feel free to contact me directly with your brand, full model number and symptoms.

Have whirlpool gold accuwave micro hood combo model# GH51884XPS5

The inspector is correct, air should be coming through the top louvers, although you sometimes will have a little air coming from the sides and back. Drop the microwave and see which way the blower is rotated, towards the louvers or towards the back or top. Some units also have a panel that blocks the venting from going the wrong way. Our MH7130eq microwave will not start after pushing the start button on The clock, timer, hood fan works, however the micro will not start

Check the door safety switches . remove the cover ... look on the right side near the top. Just because they sound like they are working doesnt mean they are working. Sheck them with an ohm meter or other contunity tester.

Door switches are the most common reason for microwave failure.

Micro 6654438991 power surge from pole, light works, panel dead

Sounds like you should get estimates and turn in on homeowners insurance. Power surges are very destructive and you have lost the control board at least and maybe some switches. Eric

Food still cold after cooking

Is this a combi oven? If it is not-and only a micro then there is no heating element. Try it on micro(if its a combi) with a mug of water for approx 30 seconds to test it. If its a combi-is the micro function still working?
