Question about Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 for PC

1 Answer

Outlook 2003 I have a client who?s Outlook calendar is completely screwed up. History: Last year he lost his PST file. He had someone ?find? it for him, but ever since then some of his calendar entries have been duplicated, sometimes up to 3 times. Recurring appointments (like birthdays) now span 36 hours so he is not sure which day is the correct day of the birthday ? (I think this may be a symptom of the duplication in that the original appointment was for 12 hours and has been duplicated 3 times to make it now 36 hours). The problem is not consistent though. It does not happen with all the entries only some, and the ones that it happens with do not have any one thing in common. He is using Outlook 2003. Can you have someone look online and see if they can find a ?fix? for this problem. He wants it cured before he upgrades to 2007 as he?s worried about just migrating the problem to the new version.

I'm certain you're aware that "inconsistent" isn't a good thing. In cases such as the one you present, the only sensible option is for one to "cut their losses and run." Your client is well advised to completely remove the offending entries and rebuild the calendar manually. Not a fun answer, to be sure. As you noted, the problem will migrate to OL 07, possibly further compounding the problem. Unfortunately, to apply a common fix, one must face problems that have something in common regarding their creation and nature.

Good luck.

Lost Outlook.pst files

If you happened to backup your pst files, you can restore them. Here is a knowledge base article from Microsoft on the subject:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/287070

If you do not have a backup copy, you could try doing a system restore to a time before they were lost. System restore must be enabled on your computer to do this. Make sure to save and/or backup anything recent before doing this. To do a system restore in XP, go to Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore. Then select a date that is available for restore and roll back to then.
