Which Dell Optiplex GX260? Small Form Factor, or Small Desktop Computer, or Small Mini-Tower? The SFF can use graphics cards that are 6.6 inches long, and 2.5 inches high. (Approximately 6 and 9/16ths inches long, 2 and 1/2 inches tall) The Small Desktop Computer can use graphics cards that are 6.95 inches long (Approximately 7 inches), and 4.2 inches tall. (Approximately 4 and 3/16ths inches) The Small Mini-Tower can use graphics cards that are 9 inches long (22.9cm), and 4.2 inches tall. (All Optiplex GX260 versions have AGP 4X technology. You can use an AGP 4X graphics card)

I've done a bit or research myself for the *best'est 'n fast'est* AGP video card for my GX260 mini tower.

I finally installed the Sapphire HD3850 AGP.

Runs like a charm.

You can run any video game out there, provided you have a 3.06 Ghz cpu and the full 2 gig of quality RAM installed (which I do: G.Skill F1-3200PHU1-1GBNS)

And the only cpu cooler that I found that fits and works is the Scythe Katana 3 (SCKTN-3000).

All these upgrades makes the old girl run and jump like a highschool cheerleader!

The fastest AGP video card that you can get for this computer is an ATI RAGE ultra 128 or an ATI 7500w/TV out.
Hope this helps!

it supposedly has full height PCI slot - I have an XPS200 and its PCI slot is not full height. So make sure what you get physically fits.
The amount of memory on a graphics card is controlled by the card not the system so either should work.
Based on the memory spec of 512MB, I would up that to max before adding a graphic card. I don't think a graphics card is a good upgrade for this computer.

About agp

The full information, you can search yourself; that's like asking what drives over 30mph on a highway and please be complete.  Meanwhile all AGP x4 slots support 512MB videocards, if that's what you're asking.

I just bought a GX260 Dell Optiplex computer that used a special video card for a terminal output. I removed the card so I couyld connect to teh on-board video but I get no video output. Is there a jumper...

no you do this in the setup of the cmos. look for a key to hit to enter setup during start up of the computer. sometime it is del and sometime it is an f key. once in cmos setup look for system devices and enable on board graphics. this had to be disabled to use the other graphics card. good luck get back to me if you need more help

Pci-e question

I am afraid Dell OptiPlex GX260 has no support for PCI-e.

You can however install a half-length AGP (66MHz) graphics card.
