Hello my name is Heath it will be my pleasure to assist you. If you take the filer out then take the knobs off lift the bottom up slightly and then out it should pop there are clips that hold the cover onto the air conditioner.

Check the user guide for advice and begin by clearing the vents of any dust build up. You may have to remove and clean felt pads designed to catch the dust.

I drive a bmw 320i. There's lots of black stuff in the front magwheels, looks like dried up oil and grime. There's also some oil and grime at wheel housing. What seems to be the problem?

Sounds like it is just brake dust build up. The front brakes take most of the brunt when you stop so they wear down faster and emit more brake dust. I would check for any brake leaks though just to be safe.

The dust cover on my front rotor is bent really bad. Can I remove it or does it have to stay on the truck to operate?

the dust cover is exactly that it prevents brake dust from getting onto other components, unless something like a sensor is attached to the cover, or it is rubbing against your rotor or other components then there is no need to remove it. but you will see a noted increase of brake dust build up in your wheels, and since they are semi-metallic pads you could see small rust spots.

Most of these devices have photoelectric sensors build-in, which tells the unit whether there is too much paper dust on the sensors, When there is too much paper dust covering the sensor, the device will report to the User that there is too much paper dust on the sensor, and the device will not function properly, due to the build up of paper dust.

Get a can of compressed air and gently spray inside the device, to remove the build up of paper dust,

Shutter closed

Any small distortion to the case will jam the dust shutter mechanism, as will dislodged dust and dirt. Remove the battery and carefuly remove the case screws. DO NOT LOSE. Lift off the front cover, take care with the top control knob and on/off switch as there are dust shields that may tear. This reveals the dust cover mechanism on the front of the camera. Dust off with an air-duster or soft spotlessly clean (new) paintbrush. Check a narrow ribbon cable is plugged-in at the front as this powers the cover motor. Gently guide the case around the top rotary control & on-off switch and line-up the circuit board beneath the rotary switch. Do not force anything together. Lightly re-assemble without screws and insert the battery - you cannot make this test without the cover-on as the case supports the switches needed to control the camera. Check that the cover operates correctly or is jamming on the case cover at the front where the shutter moves. If all OK replace the screws, else gently straighten the case with your fingers. This has happened several times to mine and cleaning it/lightly straightening the case cover always make it work again.
