Sure it can. You just need to make sure you correctly match the thermal transfer ribbon to the facestock you're printing on. Wax ribbon for paper, Resin for synthetics like polyester.

Warning ribbon in V53.16.7Z

The "ribon in" warning is because you set the printer to print DIRECT THERMAL insted THERMAL TRANSFER. The first mode is for printing directly on the thermal labels, not for using a ribon. The ribon sensor detects that a ribon is pressent and you get this message. You need to change the printing mode to Thermal Transfer from the printer Setup Menu, or from the Print Driver instaled on PC.

Why would the printer not print appears like it has run out of ink(is a thermal)?

That printer will work in both direct thermal (no ribbon) and thermal transfer (ribbon) modes. If you are using media designed for thermal transfer printing and don't have a ribbon it won't print anything.

When i try print the label..no output at the label..how to test whether the ink is function or not

I'm including this link to the users manual:

http://www.zebra.com/id/zebra/na/en/index/resource_library/manuals.results.html

But here is the basic troubleshooting info for that issue

No print on the label. The media may not be direct thermal media when printing without ribbon (i.e. thermal
transfer). See the test procedure

Determining Thermal Media Types on page 29.
• For thermal transfer printers, the media may not be outside wound or approved for use in
the G-Series printer. See the following ribbon test procedures: Ribbon Test with Adhesive
on page 32

and Ribbon Scratch Test on page 33.
• Is the media loaded correctly? Follow the instructions for

Loading Roll Media on page 11
in the Getting Started section. For printing using transfer ribbon, see

Loading Transfer Ribbon
on page 14.

I have a few Datamax-I-4206 printers and some of them have the Thermal Transfer ribbons and some do not....Do I need to have Thermal Transfers or cant I just print to them without it?

If the unit is set up for either(with the thermal trasnfer option- ribbon unwind and rewind assembly) you can use either ribbon- with thermal transfer stock, or direct thermal- with direct stock.
You can tell the stock by rubbing something across the stock to see if it will turn black, that is direct thermal stock.
If using direct, go into the setup and select media type- direct thermal.
If using ribbon- use thermal trasnfer option. But remember to install ribbon before calibration as ithe printer will error on out-of -ribbon.

PRINTER IS NOT PRINTING rUNS NORMASL JUST NOT PRINTING

Check the settings. If the printer is set for thermal DIRECT and you have thermal transfer labels, this will be the result. Thermal direct requires thermal sensitive labels. Thermal transfer requires a ribbon.

Hope this helps,
Dan

I cant seem to get rid of the "Ribbon In" error on my zebra S4M

1st change the print method to direct thermal on the LCD panel,  then check the driver on your computer, make sure you are printing with direct thermal

u can check the driver at printer & faxes , right click the printer and select printing preference .

Zebra Z4 Error message

ribbon in means, you choose direct thermal print method which is printing without a ribbon and yet you print with thermal transfer print method.

just check on lcd panel , change the print method to thermal transfer. and make sure the setting on your driver is thermal transfer too, or else it will keep reverting back to direct thermal

My zm400 keeps reverting back to direct thermal

did it stay on direct thermal if you not doing any print job ?
then i assume you the problem is when you printing .In ZEBRA DESIGNER, there's a printing preference that can be set up... i think u selected direct thermal when you print with zebra designer, that's why whenever u start printing, it show RIBBON IN again.
the solution is, Just changed the printing method from zebra designer.

if you aren't using zebra designer, then the problem at your driver. Open Printer & Faxes, then right click your Printer and klik on Printing Preferenced. There u can set up the printing method to Thermal Transfer.

The thing is....... changing the Setting from LCD panel won't change the setting on the driver.

i hope this will help you

110xi111plus error code: warning ribbon in? what does that mean?

that ribbon occures when you are set for thermal direct printing in the driver or printer and you should be set for thermal transfer in the driver in printing defaults off of the advanced tab and the printer needs to be set for thermal transfer in print method in the setup menu. thermal transfer is printing with black ink ribbon and paper and thermal direct is just chemicaly treated paper.

How to say to the priter we don´t use ribbon

If you are printing in direct thermal mode (without a ribbon):
· Check your software settings and make sure that the print type is 'direct thermal'. If your software package requires the use of a Windows driver, also make sure that the driver is set for direct thermal printing.
If you are printing in thermal transfer mode (with a ribbon):
· Check your software settings and make sure that the print type is 'thermal transfer'. If your software package requires the use of a Windows driver, also make sure that the driver is set for thermal
transfer printing.

Check to see if there is any dirt on the ribbon spindle gears or on the ribbon motors. For the latter
you will need to remove the electronics cover. If there is dirt in either of these areas, try vacuuming around the motors and/or the spindles to remove as much of the dirt as possible.
