SOURCE: Color wheel replacement
This TV set is a 2004 and there is no yellow sticker on sheilding to indicate jumper plug position. I removed sheild and on pcb found test points had been soldered together, no pins on this pcb. Removed solder bridge and tried picture again and now it is working as normal, good color, no noises from color wheel, and good picture. This set was miss leading because access to pcb thru sheilding was blocked.
Hope this may help others out there.

You probably replaced a bearing colorwheel, and it was replaced with a bearingless. If you look inside the TV on the back of the light engine (the silver box in front of and to the left of the color wheel), there should be a jumper (that connects two wires coming out) toward the bottom of it in a recessed little hole. That jumper should be removed if the color wheel was replaced with the air bearing type. Just grasp it gently with a pair of needle nose pliers, and pull it out slowly.
This should restore a normal color operation, but there might be some other adjustments that need to be made if it doesn't clear it up completely.
I hope this helps you...

SOURCE: how to replace rca color wheel
Its fairly easy. Remove the back of the TV. You'll need torx head screwdrivers as RCA uses them exclusively on their TVs. The color wheel is mounted on the light engine to the left of the lamp assembly and has three screws holding it in place. There are also two connectors which have to be undone. You may have to transfer them from the old to the new one. On rare occassions, an alignment of the wheel speed is necessary. If that's the case, you'll need to contact an RCA authorized service center to have this done.

Some of these sets have a jumper plug that has to be removed when you install the newer type of color wheel.
The jumper if it has it usually causes the color to look funny blue instead of normal.
It is located on the DMD board--the metal box on the light engine where the two plugs from the color wheel are.
It will be in a small opening on the metal shield that covers it--small and rectangular in shape--it has a small metal tab across it--it jumps two pins--
if it is there with a hemostat or small needle nose pliers pull it carefully out and see what you have--The CCA adjustments are done in the TECH MENU--look to see first if the jumper is there and remove it.
A lot of places that sell the wheel do not tell people about this.
