Question about Cuisinart Supreme Grind CCM-16PC Grinder

1 Answer

Hi! I am interested in buying the Cuisinart Programmable Conical Burr Mill CBM18. I am thinking of buying it from a US and bringing it in to the UK and use together with a step-up mains transformer to convert the supply to 240V, 50Hz. What power rating should I use on the transformer? Also does it matter whether it is a 50Hz or 60Hz supply? Will the motor run more slowly or is it a DC Motor that doesn't care about the mains frequency? Please advice. Thanks.

Colinchee, this sounds like a rather complicated electrical engineering issue. Why not buy a coffee grinder in the UK design and rated for your power? It might even be cheaper and the guarantee will cover design flaws. Regards.

My cuisinart conical burr coffee grinder has started to turn it's self on every few hours

Electronic failure. If you like the grinder, plug it into a plug-in timer that only allows it to run when YOU want it to run. I have a timer like that on my coffeemaker so we don't forget to turn it off & let it run empty all day long. There are cheap timers available that will turn on for three hours if you push a little button, then shut off until next time you push the button. VERY handy, and they give you a selection of one hour, three hours, or six hours. For your purpose, one hour sounds fine. Or a wind-up type timer that stays on for only fifteen minutes, just long enough to grind coffee. Or unplug it when you're done. Or put it on a power strip with a switch.

Hi, Using this Cuisinart Conical grinder is awful. The static makes the coffee stick to everything and makes it difficult when you are using this. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The only thing I've found that will work for this problem, which I certainly agree creates a mess, is to let the grinds sit for just a few minutes before opening the receiving cup. Especially in winter, this will give the static charge a chance to dissipate. A few minutes won't kill your coffee's taste, but it sure will lessen your cleanup!

How do I clean my burr mill (Models BMX3, BMX4, BMX5 and BMX6)?

Clean your burr mill before using it for the first time. Then, to ensure optimal mill function and durability, clean it regularly following these simple steps.
  1. Always unplug your burr mill after use and before cleaning.
  2. Open the hopper lid. Empty any whole beans from the hopper. Remove the top burr mill by rotating it clockwise. For better results hold the grind setting button while rotating the burr mill clockwise. This will allow you to clean the grinding wheel and the grinding compartment.
  3. Clean the interior recesses with a soft brush. Note: Never use water or liquid for cleaning the lower grinding section of this appliance. BRUSH NOT INCLUDED.
  4. Wipe the whole bean hopper, its lid and the mill exterior with a damp cloth.
  5. The ground coffee chamber and lid can be washed in mild detergent and water. They both are top rack dishwasher safe. Do not immerse the mill or the whole bean hopper in water or any other liquid or place in dishwasher. Use only non-abrasive cleaners to remove stains.
  6. After completely drying the whole bean hopper and top burr mill, replace the burr mill in position by aligning snaps with receptacle and rotating counterclockwise to lock it in position. For better results, hold the grind setting button while rotating the burr mill counterclockwise. Once the burr mill is in position, pull gently to check it is properly locked in position. If the burr mill comes out, repeat this step again.
  7. Replace the ground coffee chamber and lid, making sure both snap securely into place.
  8. Fill the hopper with whole beans.

My cuisinart cbm-18 does not grind at below a 10 setting?

Hello, and thanks for using FixYa.

I'm guessing the problem is that the grinders blades, or the parts that do the grinding have become somewhat dull, (opposite from Sharp.) and no longer can get to the beans like it used to.

Cleaning the machine properly might improve its performance.

CLEANING/MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS
1. Be sure plug has been removed from outlet.

2. Beans can be removed from the hopper by lifting off the lid and pouring excess beans out. Hold down the Manual button to cleanout any remaining beans.

3. The bean hopper, bean hopper lid, grind chamber, and grind chamber lid can be washed by hand with hot, soapy water or placed in the top shelf of a dishwasher. Dry thoroughly.

a. Remove the bean hopper by rotating counter-clockwise bringing the selector past grind setting 18, align the arrows and lift up. Make sure the hopper is empty.

b. Remove grind chamber by pulling toward you.

4. Remove the burr grinder, once the bean hopper has been removed, by grasping the metal handle and lifting up. Use the brush to remove grinds or wash by hand. Replace the burr grinder onto the unit and rotate until the piece is fully inserted. Push handle down and replace hopper.

NOTE: The hopper will not attach to the unit if the grinder has not been fully inserted.

5. Wipe body of grinder with a damp cloth.

6. Any other servicing or maintenance should be performed by an authorized service representative.

I have cleaned it and now it won't start

Hi. Use the process of elimination. When it is pluged to the wall socket. does the motor hum? If yes, that means it is getting electric. If no hum, the motor is not getting electric and there is a brake in the wire or the on/off switch, most time it is at the plug. ( a lot of people just pull the wire out by pulling the cord , thus pulling the wires out and away from the plug prongs. I would UNPULG the chopper and try turning the the blades, they should turn back and forth, if they don't turn it could be a build up of coffee grinds and dust. If your handi take the thing apart and clean out the motor conpartment and oil it. The unit if made like everything today is made in China and there is no place to have it fixed. Take in to account the shipping charges to and fro. Then go out and try to buy one made in the USA. Good luck. Ron

Remove the inside conical burr

Hi
Try wrapping some leather, cardboard or cloth around the burr before putting the vice grips on and then it is a quick twist to break the burr loose.

Cuisinart burr grind and brew coffee maker

The hopper between the burr grinder and where coffee chutes into the filter is jammed with coffee powder...

First, take out the filter holder and carafe, and place a freash empty filter on the pot base to catch stuff.

Next, take out the beans holder and look for the release lever in the lower left section. Sliding it to the left slides open the door, where you'll probably find loads of powder. You can poke your finger through to get the majority, then use the cleaning brush to get it really clean.

Thanks what fixed mine! (I notice I have to do this about once every few months.)
