Hello Dear,
This strip is the encoder of your printer used to detct the position of carriage, if you notice the printer when turned on without this makes too much noice as the carriage bangs to the sides, to reinstall it you need to open the printer from the front and remove the scanner from top, if you can do so you will find the points where it is to be attached, but it is more suggested to carry the printer to the nearest printer service station and the technician will not take more than 10 minutes to fix it up.
Regards,
Joseph Manoj

How do you install a mylar strip in the Canon Mp830 to prevent waste ink from being forced up through the exit rollers?

The print engine has to be removed and the mylar strip goes on the underside of the printer. To get there, the scanner is removed, then the top cover, then the print engine, after unplugging all the cables on the circuit board and trying to remember where they go to put them back.

The ribbon has a letter "L" on the left side. The ribbon connects to a spring on the left, goes thru a slot in the back of the printhead, and connects to a solid hook on the right hand side of the printer.
