It does sound like your switch is going bad. I doubt that it would be worth paying to get it fixed.

I am assuming that once it is on that it stays on. If so, I would just leave it on. Assuming that the monitor is fairly new and if it is Energy Star compliant, you should not be drawing much power when the CPU is off.

Hope that helps.

My proline laptop doesn't want to show up screen but it is cahrging but it can't switch on screen please help

The "black screen of death" is usually very easy to repair on a laptop. First turn your computer off by pressing and holding down the start button. Next unplug the computer and then remove the battery. Press and hold down the start button for about 60 seconds. Release the button and plug in the computer. Press the start button and the display should return. Replace the battery. If this does not work, try it again up to four times. No results usually indicates a bad mother board. Hope this helps.

Why the black screen on my pc?

It really could be a lot of things. The four that immediately spring to mind are

1. Your screen is broken
2. Your computer is slow and is going through a cascade of data which may take a long time. Leave it alone and come back to it in an hour. Or even 2 hours.

3. Your Video driver may be corrupt or missing. If this is the case, a new driver needs to be installed. This is difficult when one cannot see the screen to do it.

4. The Function key for sending the feed from your laptop to a third party device, like a projector, is enabled. Your computer thinks you want to use it to send the picture to another device. You should hold in the Fn key, down near the bottom left CTRL key. and while holding in that Fn key, press the Function key (F key) across the top of the keyboard that shows a little picture of a television screen. Press it once and wait to see if your screen returns. If not, press it a second time... If not, then this is not the problem.

Where is the LCD cutoff switch located ?

Both the D620 and the D630 use the same keyboard.

The picture below shows the keyboard.

Hold down the blue Fn key at lower left, and then press F8 while holding down Fn. Press F8 multiple times until the screen returns.

If that fails, the ribbon cable connected at the main board from the screen may be loose and removing it, then reconnecting it, is the most likely solution.

Cannot connect compaq presario v400 to tv

Did you mean you want to connect your computer to a TV?
If you did and connected it but nothing happened then you may have to select the correct input on the TV remote. It used to be called AV but some of them have a little picture of a screen with and arrow pointing in to it from the left.
You just switch your TV on, switch your computer on, then press the button on the remote a few times until you get the PC input picture. You may also have to hold the Fn key on the computer and press one of the keys with a Monitor / TV screen symbol on it. It maybe one of the Function keys or one of the number keys at the top of the keyboard.

4.14.1 Understanding Viewing Features
Your LCD HDTV features four viewing modes and Picture-In-Picture (PIP)/Picture-by-Picture (POP) mode.
You can switch viewing modes using the remote control.
4.14.2 Viewing Modes
Normal Mode
The original 4:3 aspect ratio (1.33:1 source) is preserved, so black bars are
added to the left and right of the display image. Standard TV broadcasts are
displayed with a 4:3 Aspect Ratio. Movies in 4:3 Aspect Ratio may be referred
to as pan-and-scan or full frame. These movies were originally filmed in 16:9
(widescreen), and then modified to fit a traditional TV screen (4:3).
Wide Mode
When watching a standard broadcast or full-frame movie in this mode,
the display image is stretched proportionately to fill the TV screen.
When watching a widescreen (1.78:1 source) program or movie, the
display image fills the TV screen. If you are watching a widescreen
(1.85:1 or 2.35:1 source) program or movie, there will still be black
bars at the top and bottom.
Zoom Mode
When watching a widescreen (1.78:1, 1.85:1, or 2.35:1 source)
program or movie, the display image is zoomed proportionally to fill the
width of the screen. The top and bottom are cut off to remove most of
the source material’s black bars. This mode is good for programs or
movies with sub-titles.
Panoramic Mode
When watching a standard broadcast or full frame movie in this mode,
the 4:3 Aspect Ratio (1.33:1 source) display image is stretched
horizontally on the left and right sides to fill the TV screen. The center
of the image is not stretched.

Note: Viewing modes are saved based on input. For example, you lasted watched a DVD in widescreen
mode and then watched TV in standard mode. When you switch back to DVD input, the viewing mode
will return to widescreen.
