Question about Acer Aspire 5500 5570-2609 Laptop

1 Answer

My laptop 5570z ( 5570-2977) had power issues and I used to juggle its ac jack to hold it on for a while but then it was not charging the batter at all and now it is dead. I thought it was all on ac jack but after opening it I saw the chip PQ38 was melted. I was wondering if replacing it will solve the issue and if so how can i get its serial number?

I think replacing the PC38 will not resolve the issue as these are integrated chip. It might be possible due to melting of this chip possibly other chips or transistors might has short circuited. At this point, if your computer is warranty better call ACER Tech support and send it for repair or contact a local tech to get it replaced.

Charger is plugged but in not charging

Hi,

I see that when the Adapter is plugged-in on the Laptop it does not charge, Have you tried a different AC Adapter to see if this is an Adapter issue or if this will be a hardware issue.

This concern can be an Adapter issue try a known good AC Adapter to see if the laptop will Charge or not if still it does not remove the battery and try the Known good AC Adapter to see if the Laptop will power ON using the known good adapter if it does then the issue can be the Battery or the Charger Board in the laptop now use the Old AC Adapter and see if the Laptop will as well turn ON with out the Battery if it does then the issue is either the Battery on the laptop or the charger board on the Laptop.

I hope this helps.

When i charge my acer aspire the power button flashes

The DC jack in the laptop is showing early signs of intermittent issues, the jack is solded to the motherboard which sometimes breaks free over time, this is something that will eventually need to be addressed.

Acer 5570z no lites will not power on

Knowing that the new AC adapter (power supply), is putting out 19 to 20.5 Volts (DC), then the problem needs to be diagnosed further.

[ AC adapter is checked with multimeter. Function knob set to DC Voltage. (Dotted line over a solid line) Center hole in plug for AC adapter, that goes to laptop, is the Positive connection. (Red probe lead of multimeter touches)

Outside metal shell of plug is Negative. (Black probe lead of multimeter touches) An economical multimeter can be purchased for around $5 to $12. A multitude of stores carry them. An auto parts store is but one example. Analog, or digital is fine]

The jack in the laptop, that the plug for the AC adapter (power supply), plugs into, is the DC Power Jack.

With many DC Power Jack's, the jack is soldered directly to the motherboard.

Not so with the Acer Aspire 5570z series of Notebook PC's.
The DC Power Jack is connected to a cable of wires, which in turn is connected to the motherboard.
DC Power Jack Harness.

Replacement, is disassembling the laptop down to the DC Power Jack harness, unplugging it's cable's connector, and plugging in a new DC Power Jack harness.

The Bottom Case holds the DC Power Jack in place. (There is a slot in the side of the case it sits in)

Battery removed use an object to see if you can wiggle the Center Pin around. (Pencil? Or C-a-r-e-f-u-l-l-y, a flat tip Jewelers screwdriver? )

Also see if the rest of the DC Power jack, that you can see, will move around.

A-N-Y perceptible movement means a problem with the DC Power Jack.
It would also be best to go further, disassemble down, and remove the DC Power Jack Harness, even if no movement is found.

Perform a Continuity Check with a multimeter. Check each wire in the harness to make sure they are good.

No problem found with the DC Power Jack?
Then the problem is a power sensor chipset, or chipsets, on the motherboard. This part of the laptop IS the power supply.
The AC adapter is just part of the power supply.

If this is found to be the problem, motherboard replacement is the viable solution.

[ Chip and Chipset are slang terms to denote I.C.
Integrated Circuit,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integrated_Circuit

The power supply (Sensor chipset/s) senses whether the Battery needs a charge. Full or just trickle. It also senses when the laptop is to just run off of the AC adapter, and not the Battery, or Battery, and not the AC adapter.
{Plus a few other functions}

Here is the link to the Service Manual, (Free), for the Acer Aspire 5570 series of Notebook PC's,

Go to the second Aspire heading. The one that begins with Aspire 1200
Go down to the 8th line, and across to 5570. Left-click on 5570
This is a PDF file. May take up to 30 seconds after you click, before the first page comes up.

1) Use an ESD wrist strap. Connect it's alligator clip to a good ground source. (Electro Static Discharge. I connect to an unpainted surface, of the metal frame of an open empty desktop computer case)

Average cost is around $3 to $6.
One example of an ESD wrist strap,

http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103245

2) Use a multi-compartment container for the various screws you will remove.
Label each compartment for the area the screw/s come out of.
If no multi-compartment container is available, substitute with a clean egg carton.
Label each egg holder.
(Or double-sided tape, and label the tape)

There are screws which look VERY similar to others.
Do NOT mix them up.

3) Make a record as you disassemble. Make notes, drawings, and use a digital camera, or video cam, with good lighting.

Nice to have a record to refer back to, in case you are interrupted.
Also nice to have a Personal record made by you, along with the Service Manual

Gateway kav60 not charging. i have to wiggle the cord and sometimes it refuses to charge.

I guess you've got a broken laptop power dc jack or power cable.

Symptoms of a broken Laptop DC power jack:

- The laptop only operates when you hold the DC power plug in a certain direction (DC jack is broken or loose).
- The laptop only runs on battery power (no power is getting through the DC jack).
- The laptop gets no power at all.
- The laptop will not charge the battery.
- The laptop switches from AC power to battery power intermittently due to a loose or broken power jack.
- The laptop suddenly shuts off.
- The DC jack may feel loose.
- Sparks come out of the back of the laptop when you insert the power plug into the DC jack.

Advent N270 netbook will not charge. Orange light comes on initially then goes off. Also when I wiggle the plug into the laptop the light flashes on and intermittently.

It sounds like either a bad connection on the motherboard or a broken wire in the adapter making intermittent connection.

1. With the power adapter disconnected, do you have a power light? This would indicate the adapter is good and the plug is questionable.

2. Check your power adapter output with a multi-meter.(be sure to wiggle the wires around) If the power fluctuates, replace the plug.

3. If the power is solid, replace the motherboard connector.

We noticed today that the battery does not charge, nor will the laptop operate with only the power adapter connected. I've verified that the power brick is putting out the correct voltage. If I...

Check if the AC Adapter brick is getting warm when connected, if not then you need to replace the Adapter.

If AC Adapter brick is getting warm and still its not charging the Battery, please perform the following steps.

1. Disconnect the AC Adapter.
2. Remove the Battery.
3. Hold the Power button down for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
4. Reconnect the AC adapter and do NOT connect the battery now.
5. Turn on the Notebook power.

Note: With an extensive use of the notebook, some times notebook would store some static charges which indeed will stop the notebook from powering up or charging the battery.
The procedure to remove this static charges from the notebook is known as power drain.
Performing a power drain procedure will not effect any personal data or delete any pictures from the hard drive on your notebook.

If issue persists, contact Notebook manufacturer for further support.

My ACER 5570z will not start up. When power cord

You most likely have a broken DC Jack on the motherboard. Thus, the battery cannot get a charge and the power supply is not making a connection to the system board because of the broken DC Jack.

Good Luck

Ac adapter connection inside laptop doesnt work, light for battery charging will not turn on and will not charge

You adapter may be faulty, check it with a multi-meter, the voltage reading for a functioning adapter should be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on the adapter.
If you do not get a voltage reading then the adapter is faulty and you need to get a replacement adapter.
If you get a reliable voltage reading at the adapter plug, then connect it into the laptop and wriggle this plug. If the charge LED blinks. then the power connector on the laptop is loose/faulty and needs repairing.
