Question about Canon PIXMA MP780 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

Jammed After I changed a printer cartridge the machine will not work at all -- the part that moves back and forth to scan or copy the image (I cannot think of the name at the moment -- pardon my imprecision) appears to be stuck. When I changed the printer cartridge I had a hard time getting everything back into place, including the part that holds the printer cartridges and the top cover; although I don't think I forced it shut I must have damaged something.  Is the machine a goner?

As you should NOT have had the problems you have described when changing the Ink cartridges, I am led to believe that something may have been forced out of place.

Try reinstalling the Ink cartridges (scrupulously following the instructions) and see if everything clicks gently into place, then try the machine again.

If this does not work, take it to a repairer and get them to check it out (remember your warranty if it is still valid - though this may not apply in the case of physical damage caused by the operator). It may be something simple, so keep your fingers crossed.

Good luck.

HP Photosmart Premium C309 with all lights flashing. Won't do anything, even scan. No resets work. All I want to do is scan. Help.

Either the carriage is jammed or there is a major electronic board failure. With the power disconnected, try to move the carriage back and forth with your hand. If it seems sticky, clean off the carriage rod and put a drop of light oil on it. Then work the carriage back and forth until it moves freely. Plug in and all should be well.
If this does not help and you can't find any jammed paper or objects, you have a major failure and it will be cheapest to buy a new unit.

How do I clean toner from machine?

Probably it's the jammed paper that might caused the error. I suggest have it serviced by the technician. Be aware of the paper handling capacity of your machine to minimize jamming:

Phaser 3300MFPV/X, Copy/Print/Colour Scan/Fax, B&W, 28 ppm, A4, 1200 dpi, 50-sheet ADF, 250-sheet Paper Tray, 50-sheet Multipurpose tray, 150-sheet Output Tray, 96 MB, Automatic 2-sided printing, USB/Ethernet, PCL/PS3, Scanning software, 220 V

Cartridge jam: tried all the suggested solutions; but still jammed. What to do?

Lift the Flat Bed Scanner up so that you can find the Cartridges Inside.
Remove the Cartridges from the Printer.
Move the Cartridge Carrier Back and Forth as fast as you can!
Replace the Cartridges back to the Printer!
Good Luck!!!!

Printed images are grainy? especially the skins. any solution

This could be caused by a couple of things. The first one is the toner cartridge. A defective or low toner cartridge can cause light "grainy" looking copies. If you have a spare toner cartridge try that first. The second possibility is dirty scanner optics. The scanner bar that lights up under the glass and moves back and forth has 3 mirrors on it. When they get dirty is causes your scanned image (before it gets copied) to appear light and patchy looking. The glass must be removed by removing the 4 screws on the left hand side. Then the scanner can be pulled out and the 3 mirrors cleaned. If you have the machine hooked up to a computer to be able to print then these mirrors will NOT affect PC prints. If PC prints are grainy then that would point to the toner. The dirty mirrors will only effect the copies.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

Though there was no message to indicate toner issues, I changed the cartridge anyway. That must have been the problem. It works now. The old cartridge was 3 years old and, though barely used, may have outlived its quality. Thanks for writing back.

Cartridge jammed and sccaning error

When you open the clamshell does the ink carriage slide back and forth with jamming?

If not then try getting some silicone grease and apply a very very thin line of it on the rail.

If it does then try making a copy, in the middle of the process, before the error, open it up and see if the ink carriage has even moved from "Home" position.

You might have a belt issue and this could be one of many things, stripped plastic gear, streatched belt...

What is the cartridge cradle

The cartridge cradle is where the ink cartridges are installed. It slided back and forth on a silver rail. If the rail gets dirty, the cradle can stick and not move freely. Try cleaning the rail with a soft clean dry cloth.

I've also see the cradle become disconnected from the belt that moves it back and forth. If that has occurred, and it is out of warranty, it will need replacement.
