Question about Oregon Scientific Electric PTO Clutch for Cub Cadet, MTD and Warner

1 Answer

My Cub Cadet 1782 will not start. When the ignition switch is turned the 'Disengage PTO" lamp illuminates. I have changed the interlock switch, but it did not correct the problem. Any ideas?

Is the lamp With the PTO control in the disengageed position.Manually operate rhe switch to determine if depresing or release will put he citcuit in the proper position for starting. Once determined mount the switch to be in that position when PTO conytol is in disengaged. The light should be out when PTO is disengagedm You can use the light when operating switch by hand. Remount switch so control is tripping the switch as neded, either depressed or no contact. Good Luck

After reverse, my cub cadet zero turn mower pto will not re engage the blades. sporadic up to the point of stopping altogether. is it the switch or clutch?

I would guess it is the switch. My Cub Cadet has a safety feature where the blades (PTO) stop when you hit reverse. There is an override where you turn the key back about a quarter turn or so and hit a button right above the key to make the blades run even in reverse. Therefore, I would guess the ignition switch is the problem but I can't be certain. Or it could be the electric switch that engages the PTO.

Keeps blowing fuse

There are several things that can cause the fuse to blow. PTO stands for Power Take Off and most likely this will not be the problem unless it blows the fuse when it is turned on. What you are saying is the fuse is blowing by just turning on the switch will be a short which can be anything from a pinched wire, shorted diode, short in the stator. bad voltage regulator.etc

Pto will not disengage

first unplug the switch and see if it still operate then disconnect the spark plugs then turn the blades threw the discharge opening and see if the engine rotates when moving the blades this will tell you if the clutch is stuck then connect the spark plug wires back on and next to the engine base you will find a 2 wire connector that feeds the clutch power and ground unplug that connector and start the mower see if the blades turn this will tell you if you have a mechanical failure if it does not operate with the wires unplugged its a electrical

Cub Cadet-Blades won't stay engaged

sounds like either a saftey switch problem or a bad drive clutch on the pto. usuallly the mower shuts down, not the blades, they may have changed this though. my best guess would be a safety sensor try calling your local cub dealer and talking to the repair person he can shed light on the problem.
