My Datron DBS-3000 antenna control unit has fried it's CR3 diode to an unrecognizable state. Can you help me determine the correct replacement part for this diode? The board takes 12V as input, and I assume the diode is used for protection as the logic on the board uses 5V. Thanks! mike

Well I imagine that the veritable 1N4001 or 2 should fit the bill, quite well. IF it is a protection diode, However I wonder if it is not a ZENER Diode, and it is used to regulate the voltage, and more or less steps it down from 12 V DC to 5 V DC? Try a ZENER first, as it will still act as a diode, however the converse is not true. I would get myself a 1 WATT 5.1V Zener, (5.1V is a preferred value), and install that. If you still cannot get it to Go, then swap back to a 1N400*

MCS 160 Boston Subwoofer ZD3 Zener Diode Value

ZD3 is a 18v zener. Also check the surface mount resistor on the back of the board that is attached to ZD3, I think it is R9. Should be 10 ohms. This resistor sometimes opens when the diode goes short.

How to check if alternator is working correctly

Absolutely DO NOT disconnect the battery while the unit is running. It usually kills the alternator.
There are a number of tests, the best being a bench test. But at 2,000 rpm, you should read 13.8 to 14.6 at the battery (WITH the battery fully charged). You would read less voltage with a low state of charge in your battery.

What fails in alternators commonly is diodes. These are one way valves for electricity, and convert the alternating current into DC, which your car needs. When one (of 6 or more) diode fails, there is a draw on the battery when the unit is shut down....The alternator does charge, somewhat, but not at full capacity. This is why a bench test really helps eliminate misdiagnosis.

Sanyo EM-SL40S microwave everything seems to be working fine but food doesn't get hot?

see this causes and fix it. GOD BLESS YOU
Power Diode

A diode is an electronic component that readily passes current in one direction only and blocks the flow of current in the opposing direction. If your microwave's diode has become defective, your microwave will not heat and you will hear a buzzing noise. Test the diode to determine if this is the cause of your problem. Replace it if it is defective.

High Voltage Capacitor

A capacitor is an electrical device which stores electricity. A defective capacitor may be why your microwave is not heating but you are hearing a buzzing or humming noise. The capacitor will have to be tested to determine if this is the cause of your problem. A defective capacitor will have to be replaced before your microwave will work again. Make sure you discharge the capacitor before you test it, though.

Magnetron

A defective magnetron is the third possible cause of why your microwave is not heating, but you can hear a buzzing noise. Test your microwave's magnetron. Replace it if it is defective.

Thermoprotector If the microwave doesn't heat the thermoprotector may have tripped. This is a safety device to prevent the microwave from overheating. It can be tested for continuity to see if it's blown.

Main Control Board If the microwave doesn't heat the main control board may be defective. This is not common. When a microwave doesn't heat the problem is usually within the high voltage circuit; either the high voltage capacitor, diode, transformer or magnetron.
High Voltage Transformer If the microwave does not heat, the high voltage transformer might be burned out. Microwave ovens produce a very high voltage in order to power the magnetron antenna, which emits the energy that cooks the food.

Control board replacement

You may want to look at the following components on the circuit board and replace them as necessary. If there appears to be no power to the machine (clock), the machine may have received a power spike from an unclean/fluctuating power source. Look at resistor R5. If it shows any signs of heat damage, replace it. Then look at diode D3, which has been the cause of malfunction on my unit for four times already. Replace this diode (10V, 1.3W) and it should run again. This diode is working like an over-voltage protection fuse (which should have been built into this machine with easy access in the first place!) and since it gets fried so often on my unit I'm planning an illustrated writeup on how to mod the board to make exchanging this diode easier and without disassembling the machine.

MCS 95 SUBWOOFER WON'T POWER ON..REPLACED FUSE WHAT ELSE TO TRY

Concerning the Boston Suwoofer not powering up, I just had the same problem and this is what I did to fix it.

1. Uplug the unit
2. Remove the outer screws and remove the board unit
3. Unplug the board (Power Board) that is connected to the switch and unplug the two connectors that connect to the amp.
4. Remove the 4 screws(on the front panel side not the nuts on the board)
5. Look at the switching diode (labeled #1) directly beside the transistor cooling plate, if the board around this transistor is burnt there is a good chance that the diode is fried. If you do not trust your eye you can measure across the positive and negitave of the diode with your multi-meter (on the diode check setting) and you should read ~.565 and you should read infinity if you swap the leads. If the diode reads ~.667 and you can read this taken across any polarity the switching diode is fried.
6. If the diode is fried go to radio shack
7. Purchase a 1N914-1N4148 Switching Diode. Cost about $1.36.
8. Go home de-solder the fried diode.
9. Solder in the new Diode. ***Pay ATTENTION to put the new diode in the exact way the old one came out!!*** If you do not get the polarity correct the diode will not work properly and your unit will not power up. Also, it is a good idea to leave ~ 1/8" between the diode and the board, this will help disipate heat the cause of the problem to begin with.
10. Place power Board back on the backside of the front panel
11. Install 4 screws(on the front panel side not the nuts on the board)
12. Plug the board (Power Board) that is connected to the switch and plug the two connectors that connect to the amp.
13. Place the panel back onto the subwoofer and secure it with the screws. You can use a screw gun for this just make sure to turn you tourqe level back to ~3 otherwise you could strip out the screw and or the particle board.
14. Plug it in and your rolling.

I hope I am not to late and this works out for you. I just fixed mine tonight.

I transfered from watching my sattelite tv to watching a dvd using the tv control. The dvd sound worked ok, but I couldn't get a pictue. Then I tried to watch tv again, but the vidio would not come in,...

Just in case, here's the 108-page user's manual for your TV:
http://www.hdtvsolutions.com/pdf/MIT_WD-52525_WD-62525_WD-52725_WD-62725_Manual.pdf

Yor "NetCommand" TV remote is a wondrous thing, capable of throwing off anyone.

When the 'Device Selection Menu" is dispayed, and only when the device icon is highlighted,
does the key work, and it also only works when the remote is in "A/V Receiver" mode -
not in "CABLE or DBS" mode, nor "VCR" mode, nor "DVD" mode.
So, (1) set the NetCommand remote to "A/V Receiver" mode
(2) bring up the Device Selection Menu, using the key on the remote
(3) highlight the Satellite receiver input icon (highlighted with a Yellow outline)
(4) press GUIDE on the remote, to swap the analog digital setting.

Also displays ChannelView for Antenna 1 and Antenna 2 - you may have accidentally
set the TV to get its input from the wrong Antenna.

If your TV has lost memory of its DBS source, you may have to re-teach the TV (using the remote)
that the DBS (Digital Broadcast Satellite) input exists, and to which input its connected.
Refer to "Edit NetCommand, Add an A/V Receiver", pages 39-45 of your Owner's Manual.
