You can set the aspect on either remote. the best thing to do is set the proper aspect on the tv remote for regular (sd) channels, and then again for hd channels. the tv should remember these aspect settings and revert to them when you switch back and forth from sd to hd. if you have satelite, there is usually another aspect on there you can change depending on the program, but i usually recommend leaving it alone. if you are on an hd channel with side bars, switch to the sd version instead of changing aspect so you dont have to keep flipping it back and forth.

SOURCE: cannot change aspect ratio

If you are connected to a HD cable or satellite box, the aspect ratio is set by that box. If it is set for 1080i 16:9 wide screen mode then your TV is locked at that ratio. This is good considering you have a Hi-Scan 1080i television in the Sony KP57HW40. Please take a moment to rate my answer. Thanks...

How do I stop the words from being cutoff on the tv screen?

You need to check the zoom or aspect ratio on your TV remote and or your cable/satellite remote. The zoom or 16:1 aspect ratio often cuts off words if the movie or show is in 4:3 ratio.

Picture on screen is too big head of people are cut off it does not show complete picture

Use your cable or satellite tv remote to adjust the aspect ratio. If you have cable there is a button on the remote called hd zoom and it has this symbol: #. On the satellite tv remotes it usually says format or aspect. You might even have to go into the cable box/satellite tv receiver menus to adjust the aspect ratio/picture format. Once you have done so you can fine tune the picture even further with the television remote's wide/format/aspect/zoom button. Also check and make sure your television is on the right input and that your cable box/satellite tv receiver is set at the right resolution for the television 1080p/1080i/720p.

My tv screen is zoomed in how to zoom out

  1. Check the TV to see if it has a ZOOM / WIDE option or control for adjusting the aspect ratio; if so, try setting it toNORMAL .
  2. NOTES:

    • If there is a SCREEN MODE button on the TV remote control, you can press this button until NORMAL is selected.
  3. If using a cable/satellite set-top box, DVD player or digital video recorder, check the device for aspect ratio controls and try selecting a different display option.

Ticker along bottom of screen for news channels and sports channels is being cutoff along the bottom. That is, the ticker moves right to left and I can read it but the bottom 10-15% of the letters is...

Hi,

I might need a little more detail to solve this problem - I suspect the problem is an incorrect setting on your cable/satellite receiver (assuming you are using one), but let's start with the TV.

Firstly, switch the TV on and select a channel where you can see the ticker. Then press the "FORMAT" button (above the red REC/CONNECT button) on your Mitsubishi remote control. This will change the screen aspect ratio and the current setting will be displayed on screen. Each time you press the FORMAT button the screen size should change.

The screen aspect ratio settings for your TV are STANDARD, EXPAND, ZOOM, STRETCHED and NARROW. Press the FORMAT button repeatedly until "STANDARD" is displayed on the screen. If the ticker is still cut off, you need to change the aspect ratio setting on your cable/satellite receiver.

Please note: If the TV will only allow you to select STANDARD, this is not a fault. It simply means that the aspect ratio cannot be changed on the TV because it's displaying a picture from an external source, i.e. a cable/satellite receiver.

You should then look for a button on the front of your cable/satellite receiver or the cable/satellite remote control marked "FORMAT" or "ZOOM". When you have located this button, try pressing it repeatedly until the ticker is both fully on the TV screen and the picture covers the entire screen.

If you don't have a FORMAT or ZOOM button for your cable/satellite receiver or you are unable to set the picture size correctly, leave the TV set to STANDARD and then reply to me with the brand and model number of your cable/satellite receiver. I will then be able to assist you with finding the correct picture settings and give instructions on how to set these correctly.

I hope this helps - please post back here if you need further assistance.

Regards,
BElectric

Is there a way to change the aspect ratio without the remote control?

Not to my knowledge. That feature is only accessible for the tv on it's own remote control. Most
cable or satellite remotes only control the aspect ratio for it's own equipment.
I hope this helps,

You need to change the aspect ratio of the screen. The cable box remote has an aspect ratio button and the tv remote also has an aspect ratio button or picture size button. You are probably on a zoom aspect since its too big.
