SAMSUNG TV HL-85687W picture is dim

(Please check your model number - it appears to be incorrect, I believe it's HL-S5687W)

1) How old is the lamp? (how many hours on it)
2) Is the lamp an original equipment lamp, or aftermarket?

It's either the Lamp itself (it's not common for a sudden reduction in brightness), -or- the Lamp Ballast has gone bad. This is the power source for the Lamp, and although they usually die completely when they do go, sometimes they will act just as you have described... they fail into a "low power" mode.

If the lamp IS an original mfr lamp, and if it's nowhere close to being near "end of life", then I'd say it's likely the Ballast.

Prices for the original Samsung lamp run around $100 onamazon and others.

The Ballast p/n BP47-00037A has a cost of around $50 to $100 online.

Google those p/n in "Shopping"

The Ballast can be replaced without great knowledge, but will require some dis-assembly, and CARE.

WARNING - Dangerous, and even lethal voltages are present inside your TV set. Do not attempt this unless you are trained in these kinds of repairs. Leave the TV unplugged for several hours (or preferably a full day) before attempting such repairs.

Samsung HL-S5087W DLP rear projection TV keeps shut off and won't stay on longer than 30 seconds.

your bulb has reached the end of its life (at least this is what your tv thinks) you need to replace the bulb and or make the think you did. (there is a reset in the service menu for the bulb)

When we turn the TV on, a red light starts to blink but no image or sound is displayed. How can this be fixed?? And What is causing this? my TV model is HL-s5679w

The Blinking light is an error code, most likely you just need to replace the bulb which is fairly easy, there is an access panel on the back and you should be able to replace your self. A new bulb should include basic instructions here is a link price is $110

I need to replace the bulb on my TV model # HL-S5679W. I can not locate the replacement number for the lamp. I have been unsuccessful with contacting Samsung and need help.

This model does not use a lamp----if the LED unit is bad you may want to just forget it---

Samsung part number for the entire optical engine:

BP96-01470BIt is marked as no longer available (2006 model) and had a suggested list of 495 exchange.

Google the above part number and you will find some places selling the engine---for much more than Samsung wanted.

SORRY TO GIVE YOU BAD NEWS---no replaceable lamp in this model----the LED light unit is part of the optical light engine.

Samsung 50" DLP - Lamp Light Blinking after bulb replacement

Listen closely. The tv should make a high pitch whine as it turns on. If it does wait and see if it tries this a few times. If yes then check the bulb, I have seen cases where the lamp shoves the power connector back into the set. If the tv starts with a grown or heavy vibration noise, then your color wheel may have broken and needs replaced.
