2nd XD cards in 2 weeks; both less than a month old. 1st card I cannot retrieve the photos even though the volume shows there is something on the card. Used PC inspector with no results. 2nd card just decided not to work yesterday ....

I'm having a similar problem. My xd card has been working great for 7 months or so and then all of the sudden it keeps telling me the card is full but when I go in to view them, there are only 11 pictures shown and I can't delete any. I tried putting them on my computer but it wouldn't delete them and it only showed the 11. What do I do??

Hi Christie,
Are you using genuine Olympus cards?.
The Chinese Ripoffs are often 256K reprogrammed to appear to your camera and computer as 1 or 2Mb.
And the chips are mostly rejects. if you compare the two you can usually see that the counterfeits silkscreen printing, is off color or misaligned. The batteries are garbage also..

One thing you might want to try is to buy a bottle of isopropal alcohol ( do not use rubbing, as it contains lanolin) costs you about $.99 Using a Que tip, lightly clean the gold contacts on the Xd cards. Wiping parallel with the contacts.

If you need to replace the card, go to the Olympus website accessories page for your camera.
They have reconditioned 2Mb type M cards for only $20.00
and they are warranted.
Don't bother with the Xd M+ as they are only fractionally faster for video applications. I hope I was of some help.
Best regards, Paul

OLYMPUS XD Card - CLEAN or FORMAT - and not reading in computer

Your 2gb xd card would be of the "M" or "H" designation, which is a new type of card which is not always compatible with many cameras and card readers. If the other cards that work are not H or M cards, that is most likely the problem

Card error when i put new xd card into my camedia c-450 zoom it wont format, comes up with card error message (using olympus 1gb xd card.)

The problem is that the largest xD card that your camera can support is an M or H 512mb card. The 1gb card is not compatible.

Master Software 2 help!

Ditto. Installing on XP w/SP1. Plenty of hard drive space. Pentium 4 w/2GB RAM. Tried different drives. Tried copying CD-ROM to hard drive to verify it was reading of the CD ok. No problem copying but still failing on installation. I also tried by-passing the initial Olympus menu and launching the .msi directly, but that fails in the same way. I haven't found anything on the Olympus website about this, but note their website generates tons of Javascript errors which is not encouraging with respect to Olympus's attention to quality. (This is my first and probably last Olympus.)

Tried pulling the XD media and reading it on the computer but my computer wanted to format the thing (never seen that with SD or Compact Flash, what gives?) so that was a no for the moment.

Finally, I went to the files that I had copied from the CD to my hard drive and double-clicked the file found in the OLYMPUS\OLYMPUS Master 2 directory. That contains a bunch of .cab files, that I extracted to another directory. In there, I found a, which I then extracted to yet another directory. In there, I found OLYMPUS Master.exe. That ran fine when I double clicked on it, but I still had the problem of not being able to read the XD directly, so I hooked the USB up to the camera with the XD back in the camera and was able to transfer the images in that manner.
