The dryer runs for what I think is the correct amount of time and does get hot but not as hot as it should so dryer has to be run twice to dry clothes. Already replaced the vent tube and checked the vent for blockage. Could it be the thermostat (is there a thermostat)?

Re: Dryer not drying in alloted time
Pull the dryer out and disconnect the vent hose . Dry a load of clothes and if it drys in the correct time , the vent hose is either kinked behind the dryer when pushed back or the vent outlet needs cleaned ( if venting goes up thru the wall , have to go into the attic and cut the hose to check . Can be reconnected with duct tape . Never found a thermostat on Whirlpool , causing it to take twice as long to dry .

I think you're absolutely right exhaust sensor is faulty.
The buzzer will give 5 beeps, all program LEDs will flash for 5 seconds and the dryer will continue with the cycle. The warning beeps and flashing LEDs will occur every 30 seconds.
On Timer Drying programs it will run for the time remaining and in Sensor Drying programs it will run for 90 minutes. As the exhaust air temperature can not be sensed the element will be cycled on and off at a preset amount. The cycling time of the element will vary depending on the amount of time remaining.
NOTE: When this fault exists the dryer can still be used but regardless of the Sensor Drying program selected the dryer will use the 90 minute Timer Drying program, Timer Drying programs will use the selected program, and with both types of programs the element will cycle as above. The buzzer will also still be sounding.
If an exhaust sensor fault is detected the buzzer will beep and the Reminder Clean the Filter LED will flash. The LED flashes at different rates depending what is wrong with the sensor -
Fast (4 per second) = open circuit senor, broken wiring or multi pin plug not correctly fitted to the control board. Slow (2 per second) = Short circuit in sensor or wiring.
The sensor resistance at different temperatures is as shown below.
When you say too long I assume the dryer does heat simple trick disconnect exhaust tube from dryer at bottom run a cycle room will get hot if dryer drys correctly then you have a restriction in the exhaust, dryer has to be able to breath just like a muffler on a car a restriction will cause the heat circuit of the dryer to cycle on/off on the hi limit instead of the cycling thermistor which will give you a long dry time hope this helps
when was the last time you cleaned your dryer?all a dryer does is move air around and if it can't cycle through the dryer the clothes won't dry. unplug the dryer and then you need to clean the duct that the lint filter slides into, vac out the inside of dryer where the motor is and clean out the vent line,if the vent line is a long run from the back of dryer to the outside vent i use a leaf blower to clean it out, make sure the outside vent is clear first then blow it out,if it's a short run vac it out, most problems start just from lint buildup, the clothes don't dry the dryer runs hot and parts start messin up,also vac out under your fridge, take the bottom kick plate off and vac it out,you can kill the compreesor if you don't,good luck
you have an air flow problem. plugged lint screen, dryer vent partially or totally plugged with lint. dryer sheet stuck to the back wall iside the dryer. outside vent cap plugged or not opening. collapsed dryer vent or vent with too sharp of bends in it. and worse case scenario the dryer blower wheel too full of lint. this is provided the thermostats that the tech put in were of the correct heat range and limit.
There are only one element in the system. if your system is not drying the clothes properly then you should really check the temp sensor to make sure that the system is working correctly and not shutting off at the wrong time or to early and not really heating up properly
First thing to check for is blocked airflow. Check the dryer as well as the venting from the back of the dryer to the outside of the house good airflow is neccessary. You could remove the venting from the back of the dryer and run a load to see if that helps. Do not leave it off as it is exhausting lint and if a gas dryer spent fuel.
I think your vent has lint in the line between the wall and the outside of your house not allowing the moisture to get out
1 when the dryer is running go outside and observe the vent to see if hot air is coming out
2 Turn dryer off, disconnect electric from wall
3 pull dryer out from wall
4 take a nut driver or screw and remove the clamp that attaches the flex vent pipe to the wall
4 Also remove the flex pipe from the dryer
5 Inspect inside vent connection inside dryer for any trapped lint
6 inspect inside flex line for any lint
7 Look inside wall vent for lint you can also reach in with your hand to feel for lint
8 If you have a leaf blower or can borrow one(electric is best) from your neighbor put the snout of the blower into the vent going into the wall seal the area between the snout and the vent pipe at the wall ( i use duct tape you can use wash clothes rags etc
9 start blower and blow any lint in the line out through outside THIS WILL CLEAR THE LINT
10 Reattach the flex to the wall vent and dryer , plug in. run a load and you should be back in business
the vent that takes the air from the dryer out of the house is clogged. not the part right behind the dryer but from where it goes into the wall to where it leaves the house needs to be cleaned. when the air cant leave the dryer at normal speed it takes for ever to dry a load of clothes
