DX-R20TR 20" Round TV/DVD Combo

Hi: My TV is now a few month's old. A black rectangle has started "popping up" over the regular screen. It blocks most of the screen. It does not matter what channel I am currently viewing. When I change the channel, the black rectangle goes away. It could stay off for the entire time I am watching TV, or, even an hour or so later "pop up" again.

I have to admit I have hit different buttons on the remote trying to turn the TV off, in the dark, while half asleep. Did I hit a wrong button?

thanks

This is exactly what was wrong with my tv. Unfortunately, I wasn't notified that a solution had been posted. I finally found someone who knew what was going on and they told me to turn off the closed captions. I haven't had the black box since - I just wish I'd been notified that someone had posted a solution.

I'm guessing its the "CC", closed captioning. You have to turn it off, it's either in your menu or you have a button the remote saying either, Text or CC.

Hi,
most times a black rectangle pops up when closed captioning is on. sometimes there will be gibberish in it sometimes not. See if you have button on remote labeled "CC" . Also if you have a cable or sat box make sure closed captioning is switched off there too.

Panasonic tv, vcr, dvd combo gets black rectangle with text in it. what do i do?

There should be a closed caption button on your remote control. You will want to go into the CC settings and turn off the TEXT mode as that is whats causing the black box to appear. Please take a few moments to rate my answer.. Thanks..

I found your site confusing. If you had read my post, you would have noticed that my problem referred to a 15" flat screen 'CELLO' .TV/DVD combo. I had sound but no picture. When switched on, the screen lit up and the word CELLO appeared then the sreen went black

YES..............All of these Magnavox TV/VCR combo units have fusses in them. Be aware of the fact that some of these fuses...do NOT look like fuses. THey're small round BLACK parts which have an F on top of them. They are SOLDERED to the PC board.
I'm very familiar with these fuses. BERNIE

Universal Remote Code for Dynex 20" TV/DVD

I just bought a 32" dynex lcd and saw that i couldn't program my two $5 ge remotes to work it. From reading in this forum and others I'm not the only one with the problem, I thought I was stuck with only the dynex remote. But the dynex website tells you how to get universal remotes to work,
It tells you to try the codes for Orion, Emerson, Memorex, Sansui, Sylvania, Zenith. The second orion code worked for me. both my ge remotes look and work the same but one uses a four digit code and the other uses a three digit code. I used 0135 on one and 135 on the other. There is a good chance that if you try the codes for the brands dynex lists you will find one that works. The 0135 or 135 might work for most dynex tv's.
If you have a ge remote and haven't programmed it for volume punch through you might try it. It allows the tv volume to be controlled using the ge remote even when it's set to something other than tv.

Emerson tv/dvd combo

Sorry, No tubes used, except picture tubes since the early 70's. If its only a few months old ? . You should take the bill of sale and take the unit into an authorized repair depot.
