Sony T.V. KV-36HS500

We purchased this t.v. in 2002, this weekend it won't turn on and the red blinking light is flashing 6 times.I shut it off from 24-48 hours and still it won't turn on. I called the number in the manual that came with the t.v. and they were no help at all. Couldn't tell us what the problem would be and just suggested to call a repairman. Well this t.v. is way to heavy to bring anywhere.
Would you have any idea what the problem would be and what would the approximate cost be?

We are experiencing this same problem (bad timing with the World Series here in FLoirda) Especially since my husband has been a Devil Rays fan since their inception. My ex ran a TV shop for 12 years and suggested it was the FlyBack. I will be calling the repairman tomorrow and hoping for the best. THANKS for the POSTS!!!

I have this tv, and had the same problem. I just had a repairman come (because almost all of them make house calls for a 20-30 fee to be included in the repair charge if you use them) and for $275 he fixed everything.. all set. Good luck!

This problem has been reported by others in another forum and was traced to the "D" board. There are a number of capacitors that need to be replaced. The "D" board is no longer available as a replacemetn part, so it needs to be repaired. These caps are not expensive, so the repair should not be too bad. Figure on $20 or so for parts pluse the local laboir charge.

SONY KV-36HS500 will not turn on. Stand-by mode blinks 6 times then repeats. Repair man checked out our phone system earlier today for signal loss and put 500 V generator on phone line to house to check...

the light blinking six times indicates a probable horizontal circuit failure usually a shorted horiz out transistors but this is not the only component located in this circuit that could create this problem, sorry but i am affraid you'll need to get a tech to diagnose it to the component level or get another pc board to repair it. hope this helps some.

No picture or sound

6 blinks usually means a loss of the horizontal signal. This can be as simple as a bad capacitor or jungle IC. I'll look up your specific model, but do you intend to repair this yourself? If so, please update this and I'll provide additional details and instructions.

My KV-36HS500 won't turn on it sounds like it wants to,but no picture, and standby light flashes 7 times, pauses and flashes 7 times again

The 7 blinks indicate that the horizontal deflection has stopped. This can be because the horizontal output transistor has shorted (common) or other defecive parts. If you are familiar with working inside of sets where potentially dangerous high voltages exist and can solder, let me know and additional details and instructions will be provided.

I have a 36" TV that won't work - Red LED light blinks 5 times

The 5 blinks indicates a White Balance Failure. This involves checking voltages and components tied directly to the CRT. I would not suggest any attempt for self repair. The cost for this repair should not be significant. Figure a parts cost in the $30-$50 range at worst.

The flashing light normaly indicates that the power supply section is in the protect mode, or has failed, and or there is a failure in the scan amplifier section, and or there is a short most likely there may be a short. There are many things that can cause this type of fault. You will have to take the set to a Sony service center or the equivement to have your set properly serviced.
