Important information about dishwasher cycles:

  • Normal cycle time is anywhere from 1.5 to 3 hours long.
  • A delay automatically occurs in some wash and rinse cycles until the water reaches the proper temperature.
  • Newer models (Serial Number greater than FS50) are equipped with an optical sensor wash that detects water temperature, soil and detergent amount. Wash cycles are then adjusted based on what is sensed.
    • The very first wash cycle after installation in the home will be adjusted to include an additional 2 rinses. This cycle must not be interrupted for proper sensor adjustment. If this adjustment cycle is canceled or stopped before the Clean light comes on at the end of the cycle, the next wash cycle will repeat this sensor adjustment.
    • The dishwasher "senses" wash water quality during a series of pauses in the wash cycle. The sensor monitors water temperature and the amount of soil and detergent appearing in the wash cycle for the best wash. Lightly soiled dishes use less water and energy. Heavily soiled dishes will get more water and increased temperature and wash time. This dishwasher will automatically adjust the sensor approximately once a year to your water quality.
  • In order to minimize cycle time:
    • Before starting a load, run the hot water faucet nearest the sink until the water is hot; then turn off the faucet and start the dishwasher
  • As part of normal operation, the dishwasher pauses two to three times during the cycle for thermal holds and advances once the temperature is met.
Things to check for long cycle times:
  • Was a water heat cycle or sanitary cycle selected?
    • When certain cycles and/or options are selected, a longer cycle is normal. Additional time is needed to heat the water to the proper temperature for cleaning and/or sanitizing your dishes.
  • Is the water supplied to the dishwasher not hot enough?
    • If the water heater is turned down low or below 120oF, this will cause a longer cycle time.
    • Make sure that the dishwasher is hooked up to the hot water line.
  • Is the dry cycle working?
    • If the dry cycle is not working schedule service.
Thanks
Iqbal

If it didn't start working again, then my best bet would be to check the water valves. Please rate a solution once you have fixed your problem

    Good luck

there is a "smartclean" sensor that measures dissolved solids in the water in an attempt to shorten the washing cycle. however if the dishes have much food left on them, then the washer will continue to run untill it gets a "clean" reading, or it reaches the max run time (180 minutes). all energy star dishwasher require the dishes to be throughly rinsed before washing in the machine. trust me, i know how counterproductive this is.

Whirlpool Gold dishwasher not cleaning dishes. It runs through the cycles and rinses, but dishes are not completely clean.

I had a similar problem with my last two dishwashers, with food still left on the dishes at the end of the cycle. What a nightmare. The most recent dishwasher is new, now the problem is solved. Here's what the manufacturer told me. Pour white vinegar (approximately 2 cups) into the dishwasher and run through the cycle. Buy some Cascade Complete and only use this type of soap for the dishwasher. Make sure you run a cup or two of the white vinegar through the dishwasher cycle once a week. My dishes are now clean and clear!!

2-3 inches water left in bottom of dishwasher after it finishes it's cycle model DU81OCWDQ5

The model number of your dishwasher is DU810... (zero not O).

Please refer page 28 of user manual. It is normal for some water to stay at end of cycle. However, check if the air gap (if insalled) is clear. Also make sure the kitchen side of drain hose is clear.

Unless there is a fault condition shown by flashing lights, then it is pretty normal operation.

In case in future you need to refer to the parts of your dishwasher you can refer this site.

Water stay in .

Please post back here what the manufacturer and model number of your dishwasher.

Also, approximately how many years old is your dishwasher?

Can you be more specific with your problem?
If water remains after the cycle is done:
Is the water clear/clean?
How much water is left? More then 2 inches?

Please post back here with your findings, OK?

Whirlpool gold dishwasher gets stuck at 53 minutes left for an hour

Try "resetting" the control board by running the diagnostic cycle. The cycle completes in 15 minutes.
The details are in the service manual. The manual can be found hidden behind the tow plate (at the very bottom front of the washer).
The diagnostic cycle may tell you the problem. It also helps clear up some of the software gltiches.
It is easy to run the diagnostic cycle.
Just the buttons in the following sequence. The sequence should be complete within 6 sec.
heated dry -> Normal -> heated dry -> Normal
This will trigger diagnostic cycle of 19 intervals. Pay special attention to the intervals 18, 17, 9, 6, 4.
Interval 18 - displays your controller module number (should be letter 'd' followed by number 0 or 1 or 2 or something. Note that down for future reference.
Interval 17 displays 'software generation number' Note that down for future reference.
Then wait until you reach interval 9.  --- clean LED turns on - then an open or shorted thermister is detected.
-- Sanitized LED turns on - then the washer detected greater than 100 deg F temperature
Interval 7
-- Soaking/sensing LED should NOT come on (unless food soil is present).
Interval 4 -- Soaking/sensing LED should come on

Let the cycle complete and then try running the normal wash. Hopefully the possible glitches are cleared by now and you should have no problem.
If this doesn't work, time to call the expert tech.

Whirlpool dishwasher reset code

Yup, found it on another site..I had the same issue today.

Reset code: Push 1. Heat Dry 2. Normal 3. Heat Dry 4. Normal

wait about 2 minutes as the controller resets itself. You should see all the leds flash on and then wash and rinse leds stay on for about 30 seconds. A minute or so later ..presto, my machine worked again.

My machine is not the GU3200XTP, but in the same Whirlpool tall tub series (same manual) so leds may not have the same name.
