Question about Washing Machines

2 Answers

I have a Kenmore 80 Series Top Load Washing Machine (model # 110.20854990) that will not drain or spin. It will fill and run thru the agitation cycle, but then just shuts off - I have tried all different combos to see if I can 'trick' the machine into draining, but no luck. I have hand-emptied the drum more times than I care to count and just want to be able to clean my son's and my clothes. I am fairly DIY-handy, but need to be walked thru the process. Can anyone help me?

I have no idea how to access the drain hose/ interior workings of the washer. Please advise...

Thank you for this wonderfully detailed instruction. I will give it a try first thing in the morning!

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

I did the happy dance all over my kitchen when my washer began to drain! It WAS a bad lid switch that I replaced for $35. The instructions given were perfect and so easy to follow. Thank you so much - this site saved me at least $150 (probably more than that) by equipping me to do it myself.

The lid switch (part number 3949238) is most likely not working. Check its continuity when the lid is closed. This requires the removal of the console. Pull the top of the end cap trims off then remove the screws at the front corners of the console then slightly pull the console forward to clear the console tabs from the slots on the top of the washer. Once cleared, flip the console to the rear of the washer and disconnect the lid switch wiring harness from the cabinet.

Using the a volt-ohmmeter, set it to the R X 1 scale check the continuity between the outer terminals of the lid switch wiring harness connector. Replace it should there be no continuity.

Access to the drain pump and the replacement of the lid switch requires the removal of the cabinet. The cabinet is attached to the rear of the washer by two brass-colored retaining clips. Insert the blade of a flat-bladed screwdriver into the lip of the clip on the cabinet side then push the handle rearward to release the clips.

Once the clips are released, open the lid and and grab the front rim of the cabinet then rock the cabinet forward and move it away from the machine.

To reinstall, bring the cabinet to the front of the washer then slide the front bottom rail of the cabinet under the rail at the base of the machine then lay down the cabinet into position. Make sure the slots in the cabinet sit into the tabs at the base of machine.

Secure the cabinet to the back of the machine with the two retaining clips. Inset the clips into the slots on the back of the machine then push it down into position to the slots on the cabinet. Reconnect the lid switch wiring harness connector and reinstall the console.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. If the washer is not draining at all it is due to the drain line that is clogged and the drain hose which is attached to the drain pump is clogged. To start with remove the drain hose from the pump and clean them. If everything else seems to be working fine then it is the issue with the pump which needs to be replaced. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

Based on the information you provided, you need to replace the wig wag on the unit. No joke, that is what the part is called. Here is a link to the part to order.

Kenmore 80 series washing machine fills but wont agitate draqins but wont agitste or spin

My bet is on the drive coupler. if you can here the motor run and the machine will drain water then 99.9% it will be the drive coupler.

This coupler is behind the motor and is what conects the motor with the transmission.

Kenmore Series 80 top loading washer that doesn't spin or agitate

Unplug machine, remove water pump and motor, behind the motor is a coupler, take broken parts to your local appliance parts store. Costs 16 bucks, replace the broken parts with new ones, reassemble machine. Never ever do a blanket/comforter in your machine again!!

Kenmore washer 80 series 110 model not spinning.

unless your washer is over 20 years old, then it wont have a belt. the temperature of the water wont have anything to do with it spinning or not.
need to know if it agitates or drains and just wont spin.
if it agitates but no spin or drain, then you have a bad lid switch.
if it wont agitate or spin, but will drain, then you have a broken drive coupling.

You most likely have a broken coupler between the motor and gearcase.
You can buy the part for about $10 or have someone come out and replace it for about $150-200.
If you will post the complete model number from the the washer so I can see which style cabinet you have, I will try to walk you through the repair. It isn't very complicated if you are handy with home repairs.
With the age of the machine it probably just needs a coupler, but it could also have a problem in the transmission or basket drive that has caused the failure.
