Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console
The ps3 blu-ray laser is a 3 part system (cd, dvd, and blu-ray) More than likely the dvd portion of the laser is damaged.
I'd recommend using the ps3 to play games / blu-rays until the laser completely fails before replacing.

Tips for a great answer:
You see to play DVD's & CD's all the information is on them while the game gets loaded into the PS3 Hard Disk Drive (HDD) which if yours is not large enough for the new games say 80 GB then they will not work or if your PS3 HDD is bad. If the problem is the later (Bad) inotherwords same games you always used don't work, then I suggest company below for drive replacement and or upgrade. Since you like I, are tired of feeding Sony, find link below for more reasonable price
