Dirt Devil R088100. Cloth Was Sucked Into Hole Below Dirt Holder

Hi All, A Lite Cloth Was Sucked Into A Hole Below The Dirt Collection Aria On The Left Side Of My Dirt Devil Model R088100, That Is The Left Side While Facing it.
After Part Of The Cloth Was Sucked In, The Motor Slowed And I Turned It Off. I Managed To Pull Most Of The Cloth Out And Turning It On again And It Emitted A Burning Smell And Then Stopped.
My Question For You, (If You Can Help Me): Is The Motor Fried Or Is It The Cloth That Is Heating Up, Burning, And Stopping The Machine? If It Is The Cloth, How Do I Open Up The Dirt Devil And Get The Cloth Out. Thanks Brad

Brad, Hopefully it is the belt that you smell burning. I would start by removing the underneath side of the vacuum head. Normally just a few screws that are meant to be remove for general maintanence and circumstances such as this. After removing the screws this should reveal the dirty side of life to you. You may need to remove the roller brush, and inspect the ends to make sure the brush rolls freely while holding the ends. If not the ends may need to be cleaned of hair and strings: ends should pop of and a shaft runs through the middle connecting them. Clean and replace. Move on up the path the dirt travels. The neck where the head and vacuum come together is the next jamming point, if this is where the cloth is lodged chances are the motor may have over heated due to clogging. Your vacuum may have a automatic shut off. You will need to contact Dirt Devil to see if there is a reset for the motor. There are propellers / fan blades at the end of the neck just before the motor housing. This is most likely where the clothe has logged itself causing the brushes on the electric motor to emit the burning smell, if you can remove all obstructions and the unit still does not turn on, check with dirt devil about the reset, Hope this helps.

Hi there! Sounds like that noise may have been your belt popping or breaking. Try checking the belt on the vacuum. If it has broken, replace with a Dirt Devil style 15 belt. Below is a link where you may go to purchase the belt if needed. Thanks!

Hi, it's Cindy from Crucial Vacuum.

From your description, it sounds like there may be something stuck in your roller or your filter may need cleaning or replacement. Refer to page 22 of your manual to remove your roller.

For optimal performance, your filter should be replaced every 3-6 months and washed every 1 month. Your filter is located under the dirt cup holder.

You can purchase direct your replacement filter from Crucial Vacuum with free shipping and an exclusive 10% coupon for Fixya.com readers, use code: FIXYA10

I accendenty sucked up the cord to my son's headset and it wound around the beater bar. I got the cord out of the bar but now the bar doesn't work. Any help would be wonderful. Linda

The belt probably broke and needs replaced. Make sure you get a new belt made for that model to use. Steps for replacement depends on what model you have, and are found in the manual. You should be able to find a manual for your machine using the Dirt Devil site below.

Hi, I have a Dirt Devil Model # M08100REDC. I desperately need to change the bag, but I don't see an obvious way to do it. I'm afraid to try pulling on the cloth tab thingy that's just below the handle,...

You can pull on the tab to remove the bag, but probably a better way is to gently pull on the rubber ring that attaches the bag to the back of the vacuum body. If you don't yank and ****, it should come off without spilling the dirt. There may also be a paper bag actually catching the dirt inside the cloth bag. If there isn't, I recommend you get a package of those. They come in packs of three, and they're disposable -- instead of emptying them, you toss them and install a new paper bag.
