Question about Toshiba Satellite A100-S8111TD Notebook

1 Answer

Toshiba Satellite M40X

Hi, I have a Satellite M40X. Once in a while, It used to shutdown by itself when the base of the laptop becomes very hot. So I opened it and cleaned the fan and heatsink area. This fixed the issue and worked fine without any problems for 2 months.

Now all of a sudden it died while playing a DVD and won't powerup. When I tried to turn it on nothing happens, after couple of attempts only the the fan is turning on. No Hard Drive light.

I did some basic checks Power and Battery is O.K. Hard drive is O.K. I suspect the problem with motherboard but don't know how and what to fix. I appreciate your valuable help and suggestions-- Thanks in adavance.

Try booting without the battery installed.

well it looks like the mb has power issues now.
it might have blown the regulators or just the cpu is gone bad.
it will be hard to determine without swapping out parts at this point.
cpu's are cheap if it has a removable cpu,
they go for 10 to 25 on ebay. the cpu is not likely the issue though.
mb's are pricey and I don't see any for sale anywhere.
there are about 10 over heated transistors on Mb that would be suspect in this issue likely one or more gave up and died.
you will have to wait for a MB or send it to a repair center that specializes in toshiba.
