How to get vivitar pro 548 series 1 to work on nikon d90

The TTL contacts on the Nikon are different to the Vivitar.
You can put a remote flash trigger in the Vivitar and use the Nikon's built-in flash to trigger the Vivitar flash using the remote flash trigger.

Vivitar series1 Pro-648-CAN. The camera and flash attached were dropped. The flash seperated from the camera. Nothing visually broken or damaged. Reattached the flash and the pictures are VERY over...

You have to check if the camera is broken or the flash.
To check the camera, remove the flash and take pictures in normal daylight environment. If the pictures are normal, by that I mean focus and exposure, then the problem is your flash not in sync with the camera.

Not knowing what type of flash you have whether it is infrared or manual will tell if there is a sync problem. It is easier to replace a flash then a camera. Good Luck

I was needing a new flash for my sony a230 camera and I ordered a sony flash from accessorycircuit.com. Anyway to make a long story short, they were out of the flash I wanted and said that they had got...

Missed the model number in your comment
http://www.sony.co.uk/product/dsa-flashes---lights/hvl-f42am
the sony appears to have a longer zoom 105, the vivitar 85 the sony has 6 levels, vivitar 5 levels And the Sony talks about ttl control with wireless - which means you can use fully off the camera - if thats really the case I would buy the flash just for that feature - I have always used my flash guns off camera with brackets etc - reduces the chance of redeye, and gives a better effect ..
re price, in my comment you can see the vivitar at a much higher price then the $199
hope that helps a little

Does the vivitar RGPRO-648 work with all the functions on my nikon D5000

Assuming you have the Nikon variant of the flash, it should do anything the D5000 can handle. It won't work as a Commander, so if you need that functionality you'll have to get an SB-900 (or an SB-800 if you can find one).

Is the Vivitar Pro 648 a good flash or is it

This sounds like a scheme to push the Vivitar. Accessory Circut just told me the same thing as I've been reading (today is April 7th, 2010)... that there is a backorder on the Canon Speedlite and it'll take 4 - 6 weeks, but they can offer me the Vivitar for the same price. Looking at the dates of these posts, this has been an on-going thing. I don't like that. No other places I've looked are back-ordered. There ad is still up for the flash I want, so it tells me they aren't into being honest with people and just want to push out these other flashes. Have no idea why, but seems suspicious to me. Plus they all got crazy New Jersey mobster accents... so.... LOL. BTW I ordered from them because they were approx. 70 bucks cheaper than other places I looked (amazon being one of them). Another reason I'm suspicious. 70 bucks off would be cool... but might be too good to be true.

Using a vivitar 2800 flash on a nikon d60

The old series Vivitar 2800 flashgun has a very high trigger Voltage, that can damage your D60's circuitry. Even measuring the trigger voltage with a voltmeter is not a solution since you can't rely on the voltmeter to indicate the peak voltage.

Vivitar 283 with new Nikon Digital camera

the nikon D80 has a 250 volts safe range and i have the same issue but readin on the internet i learned that yo can now the voltage of your flash with a voltage metter ond the hot soe.

Vivitar 283 has diferent ranges of voltages depending on the year of fabrication so older ones can achieve 300 volts and earlier have 230 volts so the best is to get a vivitar 285hv for about 75dollars or a safe sync for about 55dollars, you can find all on ebay or other brouser the safe sync converts up to 400 volts to a safe 6 volts that are yust the normal voltage for digital flashes.

Nikon D80. Vivitar 4600 Flash unit

That particular unit is probably not a good choice for the D80 because the trigger voltage (the electricity which flows from the flash through the camera circuits to fire the flash) is 19.5 volts, according to http://www.botzilla.com/photo/strobeVolts.html - this could possibly damage your camera electronics.

You don't have to stick with Nikon brand Speedlights, but get a modern flash which says it is I-TTL compatible for Nikon.
