Question for you do you have DSL or Cable?

Also how long have you had your router. The reason I ask because I have one that is over 5 years old and it acts up from time to time and just need to power cycle it and the modem to get me internet working again.

    DSL.

It's three years old. I powered down both the modem and the router. No good. Then I held down the reset button on the router for ten seconds. No good.

Ok since you have DSL the easiest way to fix this is if you have the CD still that came with the router would be to reset router by holding down the reset button for 30 second then rerun the CD this will let the it automaticly reconfigure the router with your modem.

If you do not I can make a walk through to resetup the modem manually. The issue is some DSL providers are finicky and you may need to call them to get the DSL IP info but if they are one of those providers you should be able to get it quick. This is why the CD setup is the easiest because it captures the data off the modem.

Since you have DSL you most likely have PPPoE meaning you have to enter the user name and password for you ISP. If you look the link below on page 19 this will give you the steps you will need to setup the connection.

Sorry for the delay in getting back with you. I was in the field for the last few days so I guess that manual did not match up with the version of hard where that you have.

Look at the bottom of your router next to the model number to see what the version number is. This way I pull the right screen shots. Plus I am back in my office so I have direct access to mine now too.

Linksys router not recognize internet

Make sure your router's WAN port is set to dynamic IP. If the light on the front doesn't glow/blink for the WAN port, try a different cable. If a different cable doesn't work it's probably toast. :( This problem appears to be directly linked to the relationship between the WAN port and the modem. Given that the devices can connect to the router, but not internet, it has to be the WAN. Sometimes if the modem goes out it will send too much voltage through to the router and fry the WAN. Had that happen to my parents router. If the above doesn't "fix ya" then try a different router.

Worst case, you might have to put a wireless card in your PC and bridge the modem (wired connection) to the wireless card and broadcast for your wireless devices. At least until you get a new router.

Reset linksy router b> One of the most common fixes for Internet connectivity often involves resetting the source of your Internet connection. If you have a DSL or cable Internet connection, you may use a Linksys router to get on the Internet. When you reset a Linksys router, you'll likely solve your connection problem.

Turn off the power to your computer's modem. Use the switch on your cable or DSL modem to disable it while you reset the Linksys router. Find the reset button your Linksys router. Most Linksys models have the reset option on the back of the router. Use a pointed pen or pencil to press in the reset button on your Linksys router. Hold down the reset button for approximately 30 seconds. Watch the lights on the front of the router. After you reset the router, power will get restored to the Linksys router. Once power's available, you can switch the modem back on. Reconfigure your router. After you reset your router, you'll have to log in and reconfigure your settings. The login name is typically left empty with your password as "admin."
Reset a Linksys Wireless Router b> You may need to reset your Linksys wireless router if you are having Internet connectivity issues or other networking problems. You can reset the router to the default factory settings, such as the default IP (Internet protocol) address, username and password. However, after you perform the factory reset, you can follow the initial setup instructions to replace your previous settings.

Write down any important settings you may have--such as the router's password--before you reset the router. Locate the reset button on the router. Some Linksys models have a reset button on the back side. Other Linksys models have a small pinhole you may need to access by using the tip of a pen or pencil. Press and hold the reset button for a minimum of 30 seconds to perform a factory reset on the Linksys router. The Linksys router should lose power. Power on the Linksys router to initiate the configuration wizard. Reconfigure any previous wireless settings on your Linksys router.

Hope this helps.

Can i hook up wrt120n to laptop without hooking up to cable modem to fix?

Try this: Unplug EVERYTHING(related to both the router and modem). BEFORE you plug in power to anything, connect all of your ethernet. So, first ethernet goes from modem to router. Make sure they are in their proper places. Next, take another ethernet cable and attach that from modem to computer. NOW, power everything up. Google the linksys router splash page login. Im sure it'll be something like: 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 or something along those lines. From there, you should be able to set up your wireless. Once thats all good, unplug just your computer and everything should be fine. If that doesn't work, its either time for a new router or you're having wifi card issues.

My wrt54g used to work with W-LAN and normal cable connection, but since yesterday the Wi-Fi does NOT work and i can´t enter the router´s page because it dosn´t load................................plea

Your WIFI connector may be turned off go into your connections and see if not something may have turned it off a program or a virus or hack try restoring your computer to the day it was working or before and see if that fixes it if it does it was turned off by something. I would try to remember what you downloaded or installed and see if that caused it.

I have a linksys wireless g router that worked fine until yesterday. Now it won't connect to the internet. I have a desktop wired to the router and a laptop used wireless.

Check if you can connect to the internet when hooked directly to the modem. If your connection works fine through the modem, then your router needs to be reconfigured.

I currently have a cable modem that the Linksys router has been working with for the last couple of years. Yesterday it started acting up by not letting me go to some sites. Today, it has failed...

Make sure that your computer is able to go online directly through the modem.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem, that means the modem is working fine.
You will need to connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.

My linksys wrt54g v8 will not recognize the internet

Try to do a hard reset on the router. Hold down the button on the back of the router for 10 seconds. This will clear all of the settings out of its memory. Then try to connect again. If this doesnt work power down both your router and your cable modem. Let them sit for a minute and then plug in the modem and wait 30 seconds. THen plug in the Wireless router. The issue should resolve itself.

Easy fix here.

  1. Turn your modem off
  2. Look for the reset button on the router (If memory serves, its on the back I think)
  3. Hold the reset button in for 30 seconds or more
  4. This will reboot the modem, wiping out any previous settings, including passwords
  5. Turn your modem back on and access the web based user interface
  6. If prompted for username password try the default passwords
  7. User: admin Password: admin OR
  8. User: (LEAVE BLANK) Password: admin
