Question about SanDisk Sansa E280 MP3 Player

E280 not charging

I got e280 sandisk 2 weeks back. It was working fine for last 2 weeks. Now when I connect to computer through USB for charging, I don’t see the charging light in Sandisk. Battery is completely discharged. Now I am not able to charge it, so it is dead. How do I proceed further?

Mine won't charge and I tried it on another computer and it still won't charge. It won't turn on. If I have to get a new charger, can I get one for free? Where do I order another one?

I have a Sansa e280 and now the battery is dead it will not charge. However, my wife has a e260 which charges fine. So I know the problem is not the computer or cable. Any thoughts?

You might have to get a new charger--But be careful. If the charger isn't made especially for the Sansa e280 there's the possibility of it messing up the mp3 player itself.

It could also be your computer's USB port. Try using a friend's computer or a different USB port perhaps and see if it works then.

I got mine about a year ago and hubby got one from Tiger soon after. Since I didn't like it plugged into a computer all the time I got a wall plug in cord that supposedly worked on them somewhere online, probably Amazon. It did for a while then stopped. ever since I have had issues with charging it. I just realized when I found your answer that maybe that was it. It would write to a computer even when it was not plugged into one and would not charge. I may have grabbed my husbands charger and not mine other times. I got it plugged into the laptop with it's own charger and it is CHARGING! YEA!!!!! THank you so much!!!

Your problem is not uncommon with many mp3 players, i am assuming your using Vista?
here is a link to Sansa that helps with this problem.
But before that I would try plugging your USB cord into a port on the back of the computer and preferably a usb 2.0 port.
If this doesn't get you connected right try this page for a solution.

Make sure you are using a data transfer cable, and not just a "Charge Only Cable"... There is a difference, and they may look similar and both connect via USB so it can be tricky.

Sansa e280

You have a version 2 player. If you look at the back of your player in the bottom right hand corner, you will see v2 in tiny letters after the e280. When the v2 players first came out, they didn't have the USB option. About 2 weeks ago Sandisk came out with a firmware update 3.01.14, which returns the USB option. Go to:  http://www.sandisk.com/Retail/DriverDownloads.aspx  download the sansa firmware updater, follow the instructions and it will upgrade your firmware to get your USB option.
If your have any further questions or problems with your player go to the sansa e200 forum for additional help:  http://forums.sandisk.com/sansa/board?board.id=e200&page=1

E280 and my computer do not connect

These are the most common methods for recovering Sandisk's Sansa Mp3 Players. I have been almost universally successful in recovering Sansa players using one or a combination of these methods. These methods do not work if you are having synchronization or music format issues - they are for recovering a player that will not power up, freezes, flashes, is not recognized by the computer, and a host of other issues.

Reset the Sansa Player first. On most models, restart is done by holding the power button in for 15 seconds or longer. Check your specific manual to be sure. The manuals are available from the Sansa website if they have been misplaced.
Download the Sansa Recovery Tool from the Sansa website.
Format - Erases Everything: Connect your Sansa player to the computer and open Windows Media Player. Click on the Sync tab. Pull down the drop down menu underneath the Sync tab by moving your cursor over the Sync tab and left clicking on the little black arrow underneath the Sync tab. Highlight "Sansa 1GB" (wording may vary slightly), and then select "Format." - this should erase everything.
Firmware Upgrade- Erases Everything: Get the latest firmware upgrade from Sansa - it updates the firmware and erases every song in the player all at once. Note: this method doesn't work if already have the latest firmware. Go to this website and click "Firmware Updater" to find out: http://www.sandisk.com/DriverDownload/driverList.asp
If these fail, then:
Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.
If you get the problem where MTP Device keeps popping up continuously, uninstall the “MTP Device” by going to Start à Control Panel àSystem à Hardware à Device Manager (you computer may vary slightly, depending on Windows Version).
You may have to restart your computer after each of these methods to get them to work properly. Disconnect your Sansa player BEFORE shutting down your computer.

Did you format it while connected to a PC? If so check that you didn't format as NTFS, the Pioneer HU can only read FAT32 I think.
