Question about Dell XPS M1530 Laptop
I started getting an error message about hard drive failure but it continued working so i kept running it. Then the computer started working only intermittently and when i turned it on the display would often fade to gray but if started a few times it would start up and the display would work fine. it worked like that for a month or so then stopped. I assumed it was the hard drive failing but when i tried to install a new one the display wouldn't work. Any idea's would be greatly appreciated.
These models have known video card problems, so first thing connect an external monitor before booting - boot and see if the image on the external monitor stays on, if it's fine on the external monitor then the LCD panel might be defective, otherwise if you see blurred / distorted image on the external display it's the VGA card. which means you should contact warranty (if you still have) because the mainboard needs servicing / replacement.
