You probably have a Lamp that has failed. If it has you can try to order one from Encompass Elect. at 1800-638-3328; or go on line to partsstore.com.
Your Owners Manual should direct you how to find, remove, and replace the Lamp.
I hope this helps,
The bulbs aren't normally covered after the first year. Some extended warranty companies used to cover the bulbs after that, but now since the economy is bad... a lot of companies are trying to save money by not covering the lamps anymore. And the ones that did are handing the warranties over to other companies. You probably will just have to buy one yourself or you will just be chasing your tail.
Good Day, And join the club of bad light engines from HIT,
One the best ways to contact HIT is via the internet; hitachi corp. The light engine is very common problem for this product. Don't ask them to send part to you, work through a local Authorized Service Dealer. Ask them for a concession on the part. They only give concessions 50% of the time. My customers get the part about 98% of the time.(tech at house with estimate). Good Luck, big IRISH.
The lc42d43u has a control board that supplies the picture to four quadrants of the lcd panel, it sounds like either half of that control board is bad or you have a bad panel. Sharp does not supply panels but will replace the control board, If the panel is bad they will usually replace the tv or make some other concession. since you bought it at christmas it should be under the 1 yr manufactures warranty. I would suggest calling sharp and finding your nearest authorized service center. Thanks, hope this helped.

Could drill some holes into the base of the stand and secure it to what ever you have it sitting on.
tie down strap that prevents
tipping. You have to secure the strap someplace with a self tapping
wood screw and the other end of the strap connects to the base of the
