Question about Seagate HDD 40GB 7200RPM ATA100 2MB (ST340014AP) Hard Drive
Never use Spinrite if you don't understand what it does.
It only helps in about 5% of the cases. In 70% of all cases it won't help at all, and in remaining 25% it will make your data unrecoverable.
It can be used only if you have some ocasional bad sectors. For example you try to read 1 file and it gets stuck at some point.
If you hear clicking or other new sounds Spinrite will only make more damage.

The best data recovery software that I know of is called Spinrite 6. ($89.00) Go to www.grc.com. (Gibson Research Corporation). No, I'm not associated with GRC, and I don't make any money recommending Spinrite. However I've used it on many drives with great success. Be sure to check out Spinrite's FAQ's.
While there you might also want to check out his "Security Now" podcasts. Steve Gibson is one of the foremost experts on internet and network security.
In August 2007, Security Now! won in the People's Choice Podcast Awards Technology/Science category. In August 2006, Security Now! ranked fourth in the "Top 40" of all podcasts listened to via the PodNova service. Security Now! averaged around 100,000 downloads per episode throughout 2006.
Last but not least, check out some of the free software that Steve writes and is available for download absolutely free.

SOURCE: Hrad Disk Crash
i dont think theres any way to repair it with that fault except sending it back to toshiba, if you ask them they can retieve the data but they charge you. i have done that before for customers. If its the board on the hard drive you could try and get the same model off ebay cheap and replace it but with the motor you would have to send it back to toshiba All the best John

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Tips for a great answer:
drive recovery software is the exact answer for your question how to restore crashed hard drive Mac data.
Some days back, due to software conflicts my Mac hard drive was crashed and I
was unable to access my data stored in it. I was really tensed because the
stored data was very much important to me. Then I searched over the internet
and found this software which successfully restored all my lost data and I was very
much happy after getting back my data. The software can be downloaded either
from official website or by simply clicking here.
