Question about Dometic Rooftop RV Air Conditioner

1 Answer

I am a service tech in this area and am working older duo term ac, The blower runs but the compressor does not, The t stat seems to work good all leds come on. will not run fan on low speed, I moved the t stat to the roof top and nothing changed. I checked ac on all lends going to to compressor and fan, The relay that should run the compressor is dead. I removed that wire and ran it to a hot ac circuit & the compressor runs fine and cools. I suspect that control board but would like that confirmed. All ac decals are missing but the control board No. is 5054. Can you help me? Art Rv Service Mobile----Sorrento---

I have a duo therm ac unit on 2003 gbm f53 fan only works in the on position not in the auto also unit will not shut at stat only with breaker any clue

First you may check the t-stat settings if its a digital tstat. Some t-stats need to be "set up" for your unit. The configuration of the t stat may be for a gas furnace (which controls its own blower) and you may need it to be configured for an electric (heat&cool) unit which the t-stat controls the blower operation. As for the non stop operation that could be a normally open switching relay that is stuck closed. Or numerous other situations. Can't help much there.

I have a Duo Therm rooftop AC inb my 2004 General Coach park model trailer. It has a heat/cool thermostat with a slider for t-stat control and hi/low on/auto fan switches. On heat it works fine. ON cool...

Got to be a relay/ contactor that is bad. Tstat is not energizing the relay to bring the compressor on. If you can understand the schematics you need to find where your high voltage stops. If you give direct power to the compressor and it runs then obviously power is not going through relay. Either bad relay or that the relay is not being energized at all by the tstat with low voltage. Good Luck

Power up unit and thermostat, circuit board and gas valve smokes. checked transformer and its output is 24vac. this happened after a thunderstorm. blower works manually from furnace but not @ thermostat....

You have a short circuit, which is obviously dangerous. Your blower motor is controlled via a 24VAC control circuit, but is 120VAC. The circuit board and gas valve are probably history, but it needs to be troubleshot to determine the scope of the damage. If you remove T stat you will see several colored wires. The red and green wire when touched together should cause your fan blower to run. If that works when you bypass t stat the t stat is gone. The red to white will open your gas valve on your heater. The red to the yellow or blue will start your AC compressor or condenser fan motor. Be careful with the yellow and blue wires as one is actually a neutral and one goes to the AC contractor on your condenser unit contractor. Hope this helps!

Good day!!!

that problem is commonly cause of bad defrost thermostat but you said the tech is already replaced the thermostat so you have other problem..

please check the ac cord on your unit because it possibly loose wire or break..

try to check it by touching it and gently shake it and look at the unit if have power malfunction when you shake the ac wire..

My unit was working fine until 3 days ago when the breaker tripped, I reset the breaker and worked fine for a day then tripped again when it tripped both the ac breaker andthe main in the trailer as well...

High amp draw can be caused by a few different things, so first check that incoming voltage to trailer is sufficient. (115 volts) Not unusual for some parks to install more hydro hook-ups on a feed line, and when all are up and running, your incoming voltage could be decreased. If your o.k. that way, then I'd start looking at the compressor circuit of your ac, in particular, the compressor start-up capacitor. The capacitor basically stores electricity and boosts it to higher voltage for compressor and fan start-ups to reduce current draw that will trip the breaker. Please have a knowledgeable electrician, or RV tech check this for you, as a capacitor can give a real good high voltage (possible fatal) shock, even when power is off to unit. I also suspect that the start relay has shorted (welded) itself due to high amp draw situation, and that is reason it comes on by itself.

Hi, if you are energizing the contacts on the contactor, and the compressor runs, the thermostat is faulty. This is what energizes the contactor coil that you have. You need to check to see if you have voltage to the coil on the contactor. You need to replace the stat asap.

On ac side blower not starting, all the time and system freezes

Most motors have a thermal cut out that is internal. If the motor overheats, it will shut down. If the unit is freezing up, that would indicate that there isn't enough airflow over the coils or the unit is low on refrigerant. I had a unit that did this same exact thing and after replacing the blower motor and a sequencer, in the end it was the t-stat. You are describing the same exact symptoms and every time I would go out, the unit would work fine. I would suggest replacing the t-stat and then watch the unit. But make sure that the coils are clean and you are not restricting airflow over the coils. Hopefully one of the techs actually looked at the coils to determine if they needed to be pulled and cleaned. Hopefully this answers your question.
