Question about HP Pavilion ze1115 Notebook

1 Answer

Can I replace orig hp ze1115 20GB hd w/60GB hd?

My original hp Pavilion ze1115 20GB hard drive is toast. Bought Seagate Momentus 2.5" 60GB... fits in fine, physically, but laptop does not recognize the new hard drive. So... is my new hard drive defective... or does 60GB exceed the BIOS limit for this machine... or what?

No the bios should be able to read the drive fine. The problem could be with the computer's motherboard. You should check to see if the original drive and new drive is detected in another system. Or you can try accessing them via an external casing / adapter.

Testimonial: "Motherboard is fine (old hard drive works fine when cold... then dies with "click click click" when warm). Will test new hard drive. Thanks for the BIOS info re the new drive capacity."

I have just purchased ST9160314AS Hard drive. Will this drive fit into my HP G700 laptop which has ST120822AS fitte.

All 2.5 inch laptop hard drives will fit the laptop soecification regardless of their capacity. Your laptop will hold a 500 gb hard drive as long as it is 2.5 inch.

My hp pavilion dv5000ca lost the hard drive so i bought a new HD and installed winXP a couple months ago (feb) now my new HD blew and now i find myself going thru all the steps i used 1st time. i used...

Sorry to here about your HP, HD problems.

1st. what kind of hard drive are you installing ? What size and kind did you have orig. ?
I would download disk manager from the internet, or if its a SeaGate drive, SeaTools and run partition manager.

2nd. Also if you have a utility in your BIOS setup to check your hard drive (S.M.A.R.T.), I would attempt to run that utility and check the outcome.

3rd. If your unit has a floppy disk drive, it is probelly a older unit and you may want to see if HP has a BIOS upgrade for it.
Also, if you check the forms @ HP, you may find others with the same type of problems.
If your unit came with a restoration disk set, I would load from that set and make any changes after-wards.
Hope this helps, try it !!

Seagate momentus 3 60gb problem

What software did you use for the cloning?
Ghost is the preferred method.
Be sure to choose a disk to disk clone, not a partition clone.
It sounds like you may have created a 20G partition and left 40G unallocated.
Partition Magic may also take care of the problem, if you have access to a copy.
