Question about Heating & Cooling

My heat pump won't cool or heat unless I hold contact relay in, I think it's not getting current to pull relay. What could be wrong? it's a heil. Thanks Ron

Will this 3 Amp Circuit Breaker 250vac/50vdc work on a heat pump control wiring ?

The dc rating of switch or relay contacts is always lower than ac due to dc current, especially with an inductive load, arcing more and longer when the circuit breaks.

On some circuits a reverse diode can be fitted across the contacts to reduce arcing and on ac a small value capacitor can have a similar effect.

Most switches and breakers have ratings for ac and dc and are suitable within those ratings. Switches that are primarily designed for dc inductive loads generally have a rapid spring assisted make and break.

I think the answer to your question is yes.

For ranger new starter wont stop running

Starter Relay The starter motor solenoid relay switch (11450) consists of a pull-in coil, a contact disc, and two terminal contacts. Battery voltage is always present at the relay positive terminal. When the ignition switch (11572) is in the START position, the pull-in coil is activated and pulls the contact disc into contact with both terminal contacts. This allows battery current to pass through the starter motor solenoid relay switch to the starter solenoid (11390). The starter solenoid is deactivated when the ignition switch is in the RUN or OFF position.
Maybe something is hooked up wrong ! Or the starter relay is bad

What does a fuel relay switch do on a a 4 cutlass ciera please

If you pull the relay out, you will see it is a plastic box or cube with 5 metal prongs or "terminals" coming out the bottom.
The fuel pump relay sends power to the fuel pump when the relay is switched on. When the relay is on, a connection is made inside the relay, between a hot battery source coming in on one terminal, and the wire going out to the fuel pump's motor on another terminal. You can think of the relay as an on/off switch in the circuit to the fuel pump. The engine computer turns it on and off by sending or stop sending an electric current out on a wire to another terminal at the relay- the so called "coil side" of a relay. When the coil side gets current through it, it causes the other side , the power side, to close contact!!!zzzzzzzz

It may help you understand, if you realize why relays are so widespread in automobile circuits. Say you want an on/off switch to a motor drawing several amps of current. If you run that high current through a switch all the time, you will burn out a lot of switches. Enter a relay-it can take a lot of current through it, it is designed to. And all it needs to make contact, or turn on, is a small current signal through it's internal coil.

Fan relay is stuck among other things. The thermostat turns on the combustion air fan and puts power to the spark unit. If the burner comes on after the temperature in the heat exchanger rises the indoor fan will then come on. After the thermostat comes to temperature the power to the gas valve which shuts off the burner. Then after the heat exchanger cools a bit the indoor fan will stop. That's the sequence of events. look at the switches that control the fans. There is a wiring diagram somewhere on one of the panels that access the unit for service.

When to change from heat pump to alternate heat

We says the outside can pull heat out of 40* air, below this change to emergency heat or it should do this with the thermostat on its own.

Heil Max Performance 10 Heat Pump not working

First check to see if you have afloat switch inside the air handler ar underneath the air handler. Its purpose is to shut the outside ac off if the drain stops up. Very common. If this is OK take cover off unit and with screw driver push in the contactor. It is located about the middle of the panel. It has main power at the bottom. If unit comes on you cave a control voltage problem. Meaning something is not allowing 24 volts to the contactor. If your out of Refrigerant the low pressure swich will have it off. Check the condition of the fuel pump relay. It is located under the bracket in front of the battery that has the fuseable links attached to it. You will have to take the fuseable link holders off and remove the 2 bolts on top and the 2 on the bottom that hold the bracket to the inner fender. You will also have to take the fusable link holders off the side of the bracket cover that is next to the battery. Once you have done all that you can pull the bracket back, remove the 3 screws that hold the plastic cover on the battery side of the bracket and remove the plastic cover. Now you can unplug the connectors from the 4 relays located inside the bracket and pull the bracket with the relays inside out of the car so you can take it to the work bench. Two of the relays are the same relays. One is the ignition relay that sets between 2 other relays. The other relay by itself next to the big fuel pump control relay id the fuel pump relay. If your fuel pump goes bad and draws too much current it will burn the contacts on the fule pump relay. You can uncrimp the relay housing and pull the cover off. If the contacts are burned black you found the problem. The pump caused the relay to go bad so they both need to be replaced. If you have allready replaced the pump you are halfway to getting your 1978 280Z coupe running again. If the relay plastic base is not melted and the coil winding are not burnt black you can sand down the silver relay contacts and recondition the relay but I would prefer to replace it. I have a coleman heat pump that is about 22 years old and never had a problem. but now my heat strips at times, start to operate at the same time the unit is cooling. thinks for any help

I would check the control wiring. At some point two bear wires are touching. When the cooling mode is energized it is causing the heat relay to also pull in. Check for visible damage to insulation at any point where two wires can make contact with each other.
